Nearly every tooth in my mouth had had a root canal but luckily none of mine have turned grey. They turn grey as they die off with the blood circulation cut off. You can either get them bleached but for a more noticeable look I'd suggest a veneer. The top price for any NHS work done is £189 unless you go private where the sky's the limit.

I'm a dental assistant of two yrs. I do 2-3 root canals a day. Sometimes old root canals can go bad. If it was done a few yrs ago, they use to use a different kind of filler that sometimes didn't seal everything up. Now we use a soft pink rubber filling that works a lot better. Or, a tooth on either side of the root canal tooth could be infected and the root canal tooth is just where the infection decided to build up. You could also have a gum infection. Pregnant women tend to have more mouth problems bc the body is going crazy from being pregnant. If we had a pregnant woman needing a root canal, and they weren't too far along, we'd do it then bc there's less risk of other problems happening. But if they were pretty far along, we'd get rid of the pain and just wait til after the baby was born. There's all kinds of meds out there, so if you are allergic to one kind, they can give you something else. Good luck with the baby and the tooth!

I'm not sure about NHS here in America so im not much help on that part, but a crown would be best to put on it, because once it's on you really cant tell you have a crown, and internal bleaching here can cost up to thousand dollars, but I don't know how much it would be where you are , so I would just definitely suggest a crow.

Bleaching won't really do anything to help with that but your dentist may suggest a crown. This is often what they do if a tooth turns grey after an RCT. It will be completely painless and will look very natural.

I don't think bleaching will help as when the root is removed the tooth dies, which causes the discolouration. You will probably be advised to go for a crown. I think it's about £189 for a crown as a NHS patient.

Don't know anything about NHS as I'm in the States, but my recommendation on any root therapied tooth is to have it reinforced with a crown (cap).

That will handle the looks of it also.

Best of luck!!

KIRSTY,

THE REASON WHY YOU MUST NOW HAVE A CROWN IS BECAUSE TEETH WHICH HAD A ROOT CANAL BECOME BRITTLE AND ARE VERY PRONE TO FRACTURE.
INTERNAL BLEACHING WOULD ONLY MAKE THE TOOTH MORE BRITTLE DUE TO FURTHER DEHYDRATION.
SPEAK WITH YOUR NHS DENTIST ABOUT GETTING A CROWN.

I've had this happen. My dentist recommended a veneer. I didnt get it tho as its on a bottom tooth you cant see anyway. Just phone your dentist and ask.
