You can be somewhere in spirit and still form a fellowship. God knows your heart. It is better to want to be there than to be there and to want to be somewhere else. Those who sit in the pew in body but who think about fishing or football are not really there, and God knows their hearts. Disregard what that one answerer who gave the Hebrews passage, OT law is irrelevant.

Attendance at church is encouraged by the churches. It is made almost obligatory and often names of non attenders are posted. The reason is simple, if you are not in church they cannot get your money. Church, as evidenced by the world around us. is big business. Just about the biggest business. Without those sheep going to the sheering there would be no money for the high priced suits, cushy living, fancy hair styles, mig mansions, luxury cars and private jets. Notice that most of these 'Preachers" are pretty well fed.

If god is everwhere, there is no need for church, you can commune as you see fit. As for being part of the herd, naturally, all members of all cults, groups, clubs like to gather - see and be seen. Who sings the loudest, spouts the most biblical quotes, escorts the most young boys to the "Mens Room". All good fun. Being together reinforces the security that you are not the only fool to believe in this trash.

Going to a church and spending time with other Christians is rewarding, because then you can have fellowship with others. The Bible encourages that immensely. But there's absolutely nothing wrong with watching televised church services.

Going to church is only one way to practice your religion and express your beliefs. Watching tv programs is another. Going to church is one way to fellowship with others who believe as you do. Also, an important part of Christianity is a connection with other people.

First, believers in Christ must be able to know the difference between a local church and the Church of Christ. When fellow brothers and sisters in Christ meet up in a local church (in a physical church building) it is to encourage fellowship. It is also a venue to encourage and serve. Most importantly it is a time when we can be taught, and understand God's word through the sermons delivered by a servant of God, and a time to worship God with all our heart, all our mind and all our strength. Hence, when we watch tv, we can still hear and be taught and gain understanding. The exception is obvious that one would not be able to worship God as one body of Christ in one Spirit. One would not be able to fellowship, to encourage and edify each other. It is written in the NT that believers will be able to worship God, anywhere, anyplace, anytime. Praise God for His grace and mercy. God bless you all.

One of the things that fosters strong faith is fellowship with other believers. A flame by itself cannot sustain itself.
