IKEA is a fun place with updated styles and furniture. Some is actually solid wood. You will probably be putting the items together yourself. Hopefully you have an electric, or cordless screwdriver as you will need it for the furniture. I like shopping at Ikea, and am careful of the origin, I am really strong on not buying from China. Many items we dont have a choice, but there are still many choices. Remember you get what you pay for, anywhere you go. If you take extreme care of your belongings then there is nothing wrong with Ikea's merchandise. If you bat it around and are very rough on your stuff then it wont last long....and you will say it is cheap. It is a fun place for a creative person to shop...can do lots of things with the items in that place....wow.

I have two opinions about doing business with IKEA.

First, the furniture I purchased from them was at a good price and it lasted a long time although it was not top quality.

Second, I've shopped at to the IKEA store in Newark, NJ a few times and each time it was a nightmare experience. The crowds were horrendous (I mean really bad) and the way the store works is not like regular shopping.

When I went shopping there, almost all the items. I went there to buy had a different purchase process than a "normal" store.

For example, when I bought a desk from them... I had to wait on line for about 45 minutes to get to the front line of the cashier. At the cashier, you give her the product number for the desk and pay for it. Then, you go over to Pick-up. At pick-up you hand them your paid receipt ticket and wait for them to bring out your desk. Just to get to the front to hand them the paperwork was a grueling process because there were so many people also handing them their tickets, this took about 10 minutes. Then, I waited an hour for them to bring out the desk and it was the wrong product. Then I waited another half hour and again it was the wrong product. Then, 10 minutes later, they brought me what I wanted.

I have not been to the IKEA store in years and never plan on going back. If you need to buy something from them, do it through a catalog if possible. Unless you are ok with extremely crowded conditions with lots of aggressive and unfriendly people, I would highly recommend staying away from the IKEA, Newark, store.

But, the products were great and at a great price.

Pro: Very stylish Very modern Long lasting Cheap Great design good food (lol, i know it has nothing to do with the furnitures but i like their food there!) Con: Quality is so-so Not always good material Sometimes price is too high for some furnitures It really depends on the person too. If he/she takes good care of the furnitures, etc. I'd give IKEA furnitures a 8.5 out of 10!

We purchased a loft bed for my son. (my husband put a hole in the wall trying to put it together. lol No patience) Some of the pre-drilled holes and screws didn't fit together so we had to buy some.
I would never purchase from a catalog or internet. They emailed me the cost of shipping for a $160 purchase....a whopping $200+ (How many times was it going around the world) When Overstock.com can ship anything for $3 what is IKEA doing?

i love it. the only drawback is you have to put the furniture together yourself.

right now i'm typing this on my laptop while sitting on my MALM bed. it's very high quality and sturdy.

also, i loved going to ikea with my parents when i was a kid because they had that play room for the kids while the parents shopped. and they always had good cinnamon rolls.

If you put it together right it is fine ,my 14 year old has a storage desk and he seems to love it and the price was really great . I went back to get my 9 year daughter a desk I was so impressed.

We really like it for the prices, designs and well just good ideas. For example they have lots of good storage solutions to realistically fight the clutter monster, and they have things like our baby's crib which also converts to a toddler bed when she's old enough.

I like how they have lots of rooms set up to give lots of remodeling ideas.

It's decent quality for the price. But it's definitely "apartment" furniture that I would replace with something of a better quality when you're done moving around.
