I live in the UK, I'm Greek and have a new ID card. I've lost my passport but I need to travel to Austria in the next few days, will I be able to do that? Some friends have been allowed in the country with their ID cards but I'm not sure what the policy is.

It's doubtful due to all of the restrictions that have recently been placed on travel lately. If you are flying, you will definitely not be able to travel, but even if you are travelling by train, you are normally required to show your passport at border control. An ID card is not normally considered valid ID to travel with.

Contact the Greek embassy here in the UK to get some advice. Their link is: http://www.greekembassy.org.uk/

Hope this helps and good luck!

Victoria is not correct, you can travel within mainland Europe with just a government issued photo ID but you cannot travel to and from the United Kingdom without a passport - even if you are going to and from mainland Europe.

Bottom line, you need a passport on all international flights from the U.K and to enter the U.K.

If you need a replacement Greek passport click the link below and then click the 'Consular Affairs' section on the left.
