It's a print made from ink pressed thru a silk material that is nailed to a stretcher. The image is put onto the silk thru either a drawing process or a photo process then the surface is sealed and a solvent take off the image material leaving an opening thru the silk where the ink passes thru to make the same image on a piece of paper underneath the stretched silk when the ink is squeegeed thru the silk.

"Phillydarkdevil" is the only one that may have given you a usefulldefinition.

A silk screenis a kind of stencil, supported on a fabric screen. (NOT metal) The screen is placed over the paper, fabric, or other surface and the ink is squeezed through the porous screen, except where the stencil material blocks the ink.

When the screen is lifted, the inked on image remains on the surface. The process is repeated for as many copies need to be made.

Silk screening is a process which is used to create prints on a wide variety of materials, from fabric to wood. Many commercial printers use silk screening to print, since it is cheap and easy, and when done well, it results in high quality prints. They come as Manuel or electric depending on your project and budget.
My boyfriend has one and he has put designs on shirts. I haven't seen one in action but from what he told me about his is, its simple to use. The one he has is a Manuel it just looks like a wooden frame with a metal screen on it set into another wooden box apparatus approximately 12'' by 12''. That's what i know hope that helps.
