I hooked up the multi meter... 13.4 amps cold, 17.5 running. Too much power coming out of the alternator? Is replacement (The Alt) the best solution?

How hard is it to replace in comparison to other car Alternators? About how long would it take? Thanks all!

sounds like your battery is over charging due to a bad voltage regulator....probably located internally in the alternator. replacement is probably the best bet.

Before I started changing stuff and spending many $s, check it w/ another meter. 17.5 volts would have started blowing fuses and lite bulbs by now, to say nothing of frying the battery.

Yes, at 17.5 volts you will fry the battery and the electrical system.
