You need to check the connections first inside your system. Turn off the system, and unplug it from the wall. Attach your wrist band to stop static electricity from burning out your hardware, and then open up your case. Now, check the card to see if it is all the way push into the connectors, as sometimes it may appear firmly attached, but is not. Once you do that, if there is a power source for the card, check that connection as well. Check all of your other cables and lines while you have your case open. Close your case, plug the power back in, and boot up.
If something was loose, rerun the software and see if things work now.
If nothing was loose, go into Add/Remove applet and check for any software that may have installed during the installation process. If there is any there, remove it. Reboot your system to finish up the removal process.
Now, pop in your CD and rerun the installation software and drivers. It should run properly and then your speakers should work.
If these things do not fix your issue, you can do one of two things or both.
First, go to the manufacturers website and look for an updated driver. Even if the driver is the same as on your system, download it anyway. Sometimes drivers can become corrupt causing failures of the hardware. So, replacing the driver can fix the issue, but if an updated driver is there, that is even better. Do NOT use some third party driver! Do this only if you are an expert and really know what you are doing. If you are not highly knowledgable, only use the manufacturers drivers, or those supplied by Microsoft.
Download the driver, and note where you place it on your hard drive. Open up Device Manager, by clicking on the Windows Logo button on the keyboard, and then pressing the Pause/Break button to the very top right of your keyboard. The System Info dialog box will appear. Click on the Hardware tab, and then on the Device Manager button. Device Manager opens.
Locate your sound card in the entries, click on the + sign, to open that selection, then double click on your sound card. Now, click on the Driver tab, and click on Update Driver. Follow each step and select locate file manually, and then browse to where you downloaded the driver package, and load it into the Wizard. Just follow the next few steps and see if that resolves your issue.
If this does not work, consider that you have a faulty device, and take it back for an exchange. It is easy to do especially if you bought it at a local store.
If you bought it at an Online store, such as New Egg, please note that when you send something back, even if the package was never opened, you have to pay for shipping, and a 15% "restocking" fee. This is why I seldom buy from the Online stores unless it is one heck of a sale. I can return items I bought at a local store without having to pay this rediculous "restocking" fee.
Good luck and much success in getting your new speakers working correctly.
