Linux has come a long ways from where it use to be. There are versions out there that are comparable to Windows . They look alike and act alike. The only exception is that everyone makes programs for windows more than they do for Linux. Windows crashes several times, where Linux hardly ever crashes with severe results and normally can reboot back to the normal state it was before it happened. Windows you have to fight with all the time.

Second, people are not willing to change their computing experience or habits. I use both systems so I can have full advantage of the internet. What I can't get Windows to do I use Linux and what I can't get Linux to do I use Windows.

On a dual boot system you want to run Windows on drive c: and load and run Linux from a second hard drive, that way they will not crash each other.

I'm sure you will get a lot of arguments about both and this is only one answer from experience.

My first guess is that Windows had many 30 seconds to fame commercials on tlelvision channels while Linux had almost none.

Second guess is, the PC vendors are, by some secret agreement with Microsoft, installing only Windows on their PCs. So, people use what is on their PCs unwittingly.

Third guess is, there is some (baseless) belief that to make an operating system, you have to be a multi billion ultra mega corporation like Microsoft is. Since Linux comes from a few eccentric programmers who burn their midnight oils, people tend to think their programs will be as much eccentric as well.

A fourth guess is, people look at Linux with awe because it can run on a machine that was rendered useless since Windows won't run on it or Linux does not crash for years at an end. But alas! when they think of trying it out, they realise they are slaves to the Windows ways of computing and cannot betray it. Some even tend to believe that Windows way of computing is the only way of computing and other operating systems are evil.

Windows is much more user friendly. everything comes pre-packaged and you don't really need to worry about much else. Unix on the other hand requires a relativly decent knowledge of programing and coding or a 'how to' book to get what you want out of it.

Windows is not more popular. it just People get to use to Windows so much, so they became addicted and lazy. just point and click. you don't need to think, you become a ROBOT. Microsoft doesn't require USERS to LEARN. just point and click

Linux requires users to READ, LEARN. Linux from other side pushes you to think, wat do you do. when I install linux fiorst time it took 6 hours sometimes it takes more if you have no previous experience.
