Because 1 degree warmer counts as warming. If winter is 29 degrees instead of 28 degrees, that is warmer.

What we're experiencing now is a weather event - that's all. It will probably be gone in a couple of weeks and temperatures will bounce back. The extreme weather is affecting pretty much all of the mid and upper northerly latitudes, this includes the US, Canada, much of Europe, Russia and China. These regions are currently experiencing some unusually cold and snowy weather conditions. Many people are now witnessing the coldest temps for 14 years and the greatest amount of snowfall for 31 years. The cause is an area of high pressure which is firmly established over the Arctic, being over the Arctic ensures that this is a very cold air mass. What's happening in the regions I mentioned, is that this cold air is being drawn down from the Arctic bringing with it these wintry conditions. It's not particularly unusual and cycles at intervals of 14 to 17 years. The last time it happened was in the winter of 1995-6 so we were due for such an event either now or in the next couple of years. These Arctic highs are stubborn and remain for quite some time. This one became established on 17th - 18th December and looks set to dominate our weather for another couple of weeks. When it does start to dissipate it is probable that some areas will experience intense snowfall. However, on the up side is the fact that places which are normally bitterly cold are actually being warmed by the Arctic air. In Newfoundland and parts of Siberia for example, temperatures are presently about 30°C warmer than would otherwise be the case. - - - - - - Re: Your Added Details: Nobody ever thought the world was flat, this whole notion is a myth started by Washington Irvine in the 19th Century. I followed you link and saw straight away that it referenced The Great Global Warming Swindle, there was no point in me reading any further. GGWS was the swindle, the producer of the programme (Martin Durkin) has since admitted that it was produced to cause controversy (that's what his TV company, WAG TV, does) and had 'scant regard for fact', he described it as 'an irresponsible piece of journalism'. Durkin already has convictions for fraud and a string of investigations against him. He was again on trail for GGWS but fortunately for Durkin the case was dismissed... on the grounds that the programme was so bad that no-one would believe it and therefore it couldn't do any harm.

The Earth still rotates on its axis which still at the same tilt angle, therefore seasons remain unchanged. However, global warming will not cause an increase in temperature all over the globe. Places that depend on warm ocean currents on the eastern side of ocean basins will see a decrease in temperature because melting glaciers will alter the salinity and density of the ocean, therefore, shutting down some ocean currents, such as the North Atlantic Drift.

Global warming doesn't mean everything on earth in an instant is heated all the time. It means the temperature variation in the past hundred years has went up a degree or two.

Because global warming doesn't cancel Winter. Seasons still come and go regardless of the gradual increase in global mean temperature.

Depends on what side of the world you on, Im in Australia and yes it has been colder in winter but not like USA or Europe
Our Summer started early and its awful the summers here are bad enough as it is but we have been told to expect it to get much hotter.
Like today was 30c and that used to be ok now it feels like 38 so that about 100f try living with that and hardly any rainfall, our Framers have already had bad bushfires they have had no rain for watering in 2 years these families are devesated yet very proud people so dont take to kindly to hand outs.
I think the biggest thing here is the saying :she'll be right mate" is very true so its really hard for them to accept help.
With Chistmas now upon us its really hard to know what to do for these proud people.
At least one thing the kids dont go with out most charities do seem to know where they are and deliver toys so its all good and bad,I wont be around when the Temps get really bad but my grandchildren will be I dread to think how they will cope

Global warming is a cyclical event that evolves over tens of thousands of years. Just because it's "cold" today or "warmer than usual" tomorrow doesn't have anything to do with global warming.
Man's industrial revolution of the past 150 years contributed to the acceleration of the natural process of global warming, which will not allow man, plants and animals to adapt quickly enough to climate changes over the next few generations.
That means our grandchildren and great-grandchildren will see distinctly different weather patterns than we see today: horrendous hurricanes; more tornadoes; massive flooding along both coasts of both major oceans; changes in weather patterns that affect growing seasons; polar ice caps that melt and virtually destroy the natural ecological balance so necessary for our very survival (don't just think polar ice caps only affect polar bears and remote Eskimo tribes; it will affect all of us); land masses in Bangladesh and Florida will be obliterated, displacing tens of millions of people; fresh water will become scarce. When your great-grandchild climbs up on your lap, wearing a gas mask so she can breathe clean air, how will you answer her questions about what you did to minimize the effects of global warming?? -RKO- 12/20/07

winter is always going to happen no matter what, because the earth tilts 23°27' (23 degrees 27 minutes) at wintertime, and this causes different parts of the earth's surface to be closer to the sun at various parts of its orbit. That is the variation that brings about the seasons.

Because it doesn't take seasons away, it just makes each season a bit milder. It would take a lot more average warming than we've had so far to make winter go away completely.
