Children as old a 4 years old still need a " nap time" even though, by this age they may not sleep( and they may only have the quiet time for an hour or so). It's a good time for them to have a little bit of quiet time. At 20 months, I wouldn't try to phase the nap out just yet but you may be able to cut down on the length of the nap. If your baby is sleeping at nap time and is still sleeping well at night, chances are she still benefits from the rest. If she starts to wake up at night or early from nap, I would consider cutting it back. As she gets older, you can still have her have some quiet time in her room. She may not sleep, but if she is laying on her bed with a book or a stuffed animal, she will feel refreshed and it will keep her happy through out the day. You can always try phasing it completely out, but watch how she reacts and be prepared to re-instate the nap.
Good luck!

My daughter is 3 1/2 and she takes a nap every day whether she wants to or not. She sleeps from 8pm-7am every night and then takes a 2-3 hour nap in the afternoon. I've tried not giving her a nap but she gets really tired and within a few days she ends up getting sick. It's always been our routine for her to do this so now her body is used to it. If it works for you guys for her to have one everyday then that's what you should do. It's something you and her have to work out together. You'll just know when it's time for her not to have one. Every child is different. Good luck!!

You should continue with the naps as long as they aren't bothering her night schedule. Normally a child should take naps until the ages of 3.5 and 4. Around 4 tends to be the time when they will still nap but start to just lay around as well. Naps are a good thing and let her take them until she won't anymore, unless of course sh'e not sleeping at night at all or you run into problems there.

My nearly 3 year old mostly has a nap in the afternoon. My 4 year old will still have a nap if something exciting happened earlier that day or if they got a lot of fresh air. If it is raining and they haven't done much at all then they tend to keep going and hopefully on to bed on time!

As long as she is going in and going to sleep and then going to bed at night for you I would continue.
There is really no set age, it all depends on the child. I stopped letting my daughter have a nap at 2 when she started having problems going to sleep at night. She just wasn't tired and ready for bed. Cut out the nap and presto she is asleep by 8pm.

I easily have a 19mth previous and he sleeps from 7pm - 6.30am each and every nighttime, and has 2 day time naps each and every a million.5-2hrs long. we've not got a series recurring the two, we merely save on together with his lead merely such as you do. i think of your son is having a good day time nap, and has a good nighttime sleep besides. His nighttime waking would desire to be bearing directly to: - variations in climate (does it get chilly on the time he's unsleeping?) - teething (examine for molars and incisors) - sugar after 4pm (examine his eating recurring. little ones who've severe GI nutrients for dinner and/or dessert can burn off that meal by ability of the wee hours of the nighttime and wake with starvation. swap to Low GI nutrients after 4pm to work out if it makes a difference) - his physique attempting to come again to a determination if he needs to alter his recurring.(as toddler grows his sleep needs substitute, whilst his physique is debating a transformation in recurring it could pass slightly out of whack for some weeks till now making a transformation inclusive of having much less of an afternoon time nap or waking till now from his nighttime sleep)
