We've done that before when we planned on going out of town.

Just don't set the bar too high for yourselves otherwise they'll expect their presents in August by the time they're teens ;-)

My kids would have opened their presents last week if I let them because they are so anxious for Christmas to come....I would have waited until Christmas and taken the presents with me and waited until Christmas to let them open them. When they are young they tend to "forget" about the gifts they already opened beforehand come Christmas morning and can get disappointed when they only have a couple of things from grandpa.

Christmas is special, you can choose to do that, I would at least surprise them with under 10 or 5 dollar gifts under the tree, maybe just 1 or 2 for each person. Wal-mart as a great selection!!

I think one on xmas eve and that is it unless aunts uncles etc want to see them open the gift they got. To me anticipation is a big part of the holiday fun so opening early would take that away. Plus I think that it is good for children to learn that just because you want something right now doesn't mean you can, will, or should get it right now. I would have waited.

It may end up being a bad idea, not knowing whether or not you children believe in santa. They may still think santa will bring them something for christmas as well and could be heart broke if it is not under the tree on christmas.

I think half the fun of Christmas presents is the anticipation of waiting to open them. My kids love counting down the time left until Christmas morning!

all of us be attentive to too lots! in the past the hoi-poloi discovered to ascertain they actually believed that Christ grow to be born on twenty 5th December. Now, human beings like me be attentive to that the date grow to be stolen from people who celebrated a mid-wintry climate competition. I ought to admit, however, that even with being an atheist i admire Christmas service, nativity performs and carols....and that i do hate the present materialism of determining to purchase for ever greater costly presents. it quite is a superbly built poem with a mushy rocking rhythm and properly-theory out rhymes and a message we could all take to heart.

Well, our christmas is spread out through out the middle of the month
My mother in law goes to florida every year to visit her mother so this year we celebrated with her the 16th.
My father in law (they are divorced) normally hosts christmas on christmas day, but due to the fact that HIS father is going to colorado this sunday to visit his other kids we are doing christmas with Father in law and grandpa on Saturday.
I am pagan so we are celebrating Yule on Friday. (husband is christian)
and then we celebrate with my aunt on christmas eve
and we do christmas as a family in our house on christmas day.

So I dont think it was a bad idea to do christmas early. Even though our daughter gets presents from family members and us, she knows what Yule and christmas are about so to her it is like one big celebration for christs birthday and for the changing of the season.
You have to do what is right for your family. The date isnt all that important.

opening a small gift or two is fine, but if they open all their gifts early then what's left to be excited about for a small child on christmas day??? now if you're going out of town for christmas then i would take a few small gifts for them to open on christmas and give them the bigger ones early.

Christmas isnt a day, its a time of celebration. If you celebrated last night whats the difference from celebrating next week?

None.

Christ wasnt even born in december anyway.

We let our son have a few of his toys already.
