Interesting question, Matt. But the currency itself is rooted in evil; in depravity and fraud. And as for "GOD," that's just a "title," and therefore could be any god, any gospel, could it not? Look at the Great Seal of the United States found on the backside of the #1 Federal Reserve Note. What more damnable heresy could there be than depicting a God (YHWH) who condemns images ... WITH AN IMAGE? Could such a God even be depictable by an image? Wouldn't an image purporting to be Him have to be in reality, by sheer force of logic, the image of ANOTHER God? Maybe we should examine the $1 Federal Reserve Note a little closer.
Woe! I see an Egyptian pyramid with a disembodied eye capstone with Latin wording proclaiming ANNUIT COEPTIS NOVUS ORDO SECLORUM. If this isn't the devil's work, then I don't know what else could be. To me, this is no different than observing a U.S. citizen pledging his worship (allegiance) to an non-existent "Republic." For one to think or truly believe the USA is under YHWH is either foolishly credulous or seriously under the demonic spell of illusion.

I think it's really irrelevant to anyone who really thinks about it long enough.
Part of the problem is the people who care the most are often the ones (on both sides of the issue) who are going to yell the loudest about it. So we get a really skewed view of it, thinking that the country is polarized on an issue that really is dwarfed--or should be--by larger issues. A slogan coined when such things were self evident to people who didn't know to think about it is not something we should be up in arms about. Spirituality is a personal thing... it DOES NOT belong in the government, but on a piece of paper that is rapidly growing less valuable by the day (the REAL issue), who cares?
Particularly when it works to set Americans against each other for no good reason.

Yes it is a daily reminder of the basic principles of America "In God We Trust". Drox is an idiot the God referred to on money and everywhere in american history is not a pagan god. Its the one true God. And money is not considered the root of all evil its the constant want and love of money that is the root of evil.

The word "God" being on US currency has NOTHING to do with the LOVE of money, not money itself being the root of all evil. It's not God's desire for us to live in poverty, but it's His commandment that we are NOT to have "any other gods (money in this case)" before Him.

You relate a good comparison but then again if I *only* chose a package of chocolate chip cookies to eat for breakfast every morning, then shouldn't the stores stop carrying them because I'm going overboard? I'm not talking about having family over for breakfast here, I do not fellowship because I do not share either. After all, those cookies are good, mine, and seems fine to me because they taste good and since the example I give includes obsession, they'd be all powerful to me right?
What about the rest of the people who are likely to eat chocolate chip cookies without choosing them as a negative habit? They choose to read the calories or already get it that intake of dessert in large daily portions just doesn't make healthy sense. Money makes sense but the obsession of money while the rest of my life and relationships goes down the tubes does not make sense therefore "In God We Trust".
I definitely see your point of suggestion but not all people close their eyes to "In God We Trust" and some just see the green. It's a reminder to appreciate the money we do have which can be used to purchase chocolate chip cookies we should only eat on occasion if we also appreciate our body and at times sharing with others. We are also to treat our body as a temple.

Personally, I don't think the government should be in the business of promoting or demoting God, but I am not going to lose any sleep over it.
I only start thinking it should come off of our money when some ignoramus says that atheists should not be allowed to spend money since it has God's name on it. When people start using the fact that "God" was shoved unto money as proof that they own the country, yeah I think it should come off.
But I think there are bigger instances of the gov't trying to cram religion down our throats than this, so it's not a real biggie to me.

The state should have no involvement in religion (but I don't agree that religion is the root of all evil - nothing is the root of *all* evil, although religion certainly has been responsible for more than its fair share).

First, the reference is, "the love of money" and not the money itself.
Secondly, the US was founded on Christian beliefs and following Christian ethics in its legal framework. Demonstrating that basis of faith is not a bad thing. Maintaining the Christian heritage by which the US was founded through maintaining the references to God on the currency seems to be a good thing.
Hope that helps.

sad fact is that money is not the root. GREED is whether it is for money or some thing else it is the desired to the point of being greedy!
so it does not matter if the word god is on the money or not!
