Well sort of I already had a vet appointment when I asked the question yet people still tell me all the time when I say anything about my dogs condition to take him to the vet. They welcome calls so if I need an answer I call and usually they recommend something on the phone.
I think some people are just trying to make sure that you do take the animal to the vet so I am glad they suggest it but when you question says the VET said....... and then someone answers take your dog to the vet asap, that gets irritating.
I did take my dog to the vet with what I thought was arthritis when I called with the symptoms he was having they didn't find it an emergency situation and scheduled me an appt for a few days later so in the mean time I came here to ask questions. Some answers were very helpful some not at all but his main problem very few people knew about. Also people who know something about it sometimes want me to do things that may be right for him but not for us. Oh yes if anyone is wondering he has degenerative meylopthy (sp?) a condition that weakens the rear legs and they loose the feeling in them or at least that is where it starts.

not personally but,
a lot of people come on here for advise some are professional and some are not so you dont really know who to take advise from (even if they say that they are vet tech, they could be lying) so some do got to the vets.
also some people have problems with their dogs that only seeing the dog in person would be able to diagnose so in that case they would too

I have asked opinions after getting an opinion from a vet or two. There are more three vets at the clinic where I help, so their opinions don't always match, and sometimes I think something else too.

No because if any of my dogs or cats needed a vet I would have the sense just to take them and not come to Y!A to ask if I should.
When I used to accept e-mails I did receive quite a lot from people who had taken my advice and gone which was nice, but come on if you know your dog is sick why would you just not take it right to the vet?

No, I haven't. Primarily because if my dog was sick or injured, I would take it to the vet BEFORE coming onto Yahoo Answers! My dog's health takes priority over money and convenience.
What if it's late and the vet isn't open, but I have an emergency? I'm lucky enough to have an emergency clinic 5 minutes from my apartment. But if I didn't, I would be getting out the phone book and playing "dial-a-vet" until I got someone to take care of my dog. (Living in the middle of nowhere growing up, we've had a vet treat an animal after midnight before. The vet showed up at their office wearing their pajamas, but she took care of the animal!) Keep in mind, I lived 75 miles from the nearest Walmart, and 30 miles from the nearest gas station. We lived out in a very rural/country area, but where there's a will, there's a way.)

No, I have not because I would not ever ask serious questions about my dog's health on YA. My first thought would be to take my dog to the vet, not get online and ask a bunch of strangers (that may or may not know what they are talking about) what's wrong with my dog.
ETA, I did read the question but my guess is that those that ask will not answer your question.

Good question! I doubt very many people on here do. If people feel the need to look to yahoo answers for advice about their DYING dog or cat, then I doubt that they care enough to take them to vet.. which is just sad.

I have gotten emails from people when they get back from the vet. Some are I think most disappear when they don't get their "quick fix"
Added:
Mom of 2 great boys.
"not acting right" I don't go to the vet!!
There are many people on here that send people to the vet for things that there is no need for a vet. Just because the bunny huggers on here can't handle a situation with their pet doesn't mean there aren't others that can.
Growing up we had one vet in the county to come look at the cattle there was no trip to the vet, emergency vet you took care of it. That cunty now in 2007 almost 2008 has the same OLD vet and one new vet to take his place. In poorer areas where people don't have the money to pay someone $50.00 for a $3.00 shot or where people just aren't stupid enough to pay someone else $50.00 for a $3.00 shot vets don't set up. Like like to go close the the dumb ones that will use their services. Kind of like no need to set up a gas station next to a gas station. You want to be in demand. Or a trip for a heartworm test at $75-$100 that can be done for $10.00 with very minimul training. Hardest part is drawing the blood. Just got to have the stomach for it. You as a vet tech know this too.
This is supposed to be a place to help people. Grant it in many cases a vet is needed. Mainly because we can't see, feel and inspect other things to help solve the problem and advise things that the vet would also do. A case of vomiting because a dog may have eaten to fast got worked up after he ate is not a reason to go throw money at someone else.
You as a vet teck know Kennel cough is not life threatening. I rarely treat it anymore. If the cough is bad Vicks 44 works better than the cheesy cough tablets you buy from a vet. There are thousands of things that people run to the vet for that is not necessary. But that good for the vet supply /demand which increases rates for people with real emergency to not be able to afford.
Its not just time for the general public to be educated more than just to spay and neuter. Ihave no problem helping people learn more to care about their pets themselves. Those that ignore the initial care needed at a vet such as altering in order to maintain overpopulation and and death rates to certain cancers are not going to take their whelping dog to the vet no matter all the signs of pyometra.
many people on here are not in the US or UK where any vet care is taught. Most on here answer the questions as what they would do. That is not always the right thing for their neighbor to do. When answering a question there are many other factors to consider in a pets situation. I am at the vet twice a week. I know I annoy people when I go to pick up an alter. Other people help me I go in the back to pick up my animals I see the condition of the other guy in lines dog/cat that they won;t let him see. Vet tech and vets stop to see what I bring in. I have one vet that I think he gets upset when I just bring in a spay/neuter. He knows I don't waste his time he is also waiting for my daughter to be ald enough to work there she already does most vet tech duties at home. When he found out years ago we taught the kids to draw blood on pit bulls and american bulldogs he was amazed. He knew we did the right thing for animal care! And Pits are the MOST patient being stuck by needles by children!!!
I don't think running to the vet is the right answer inmost situations. Not breathing, profuse uncontrallable bleeding are emergency trips everything else can be maintained till a vet is available. Many people state in the question they are waiting for the vet to open and they still get bombarded with nasty derogatory statements about their ability to care for a pet.
ADDED: Again:
See we just wanted to state our opinions and answered anyway.

No, I have common sense.
If something is wrong, then I take my dogs to the vet.
I don't sit here wasting time, while my pets could be on death row.
Some people ask if they feel it is something minor and not realizing that it could be serious.
Just plain common sense tells you if your dog/cat is bleeding, not acting right, um, go to the vet.
