My Ishta is Lord Shiva.
The Lord whose hair is as twisting and turning as this confusing universe. The Lord whose smile is as white as milk, whose eyes as peaceful as a river, whose nose like a mountain, whose third eye destroys the ignorance and gives Jnana is my Lord Shiva.
From my childhood my Lord has been with me and took care of me, even of smallest matters he took care, he gave me life more than once and has been like a mother, father, son, etc to me, what can a ignorant fool like me say about him?

Ishta the form you visualize. I generally visualize Him as Bajarag Hanuman. I have this picture of Hanuman with Mount Menu in one hand and a gada in the other flying through air.

My Ishtadev is Bhagwan Shree Swaminarayan. He was at earth only 200 or so years ago. He was born in Chapaya, Uttar Pradesh, India. At that time, he was known as Ghanshyam. At 11, he left his house to look for a location for a place to establish his religious sect. At this time he was known as Nilkanth Varni. he traveled to the Himalayas and did tapa (penance) for years straight. AFter the pennance, he continued and went to the east coast area and went clockwise from there. He went all the way down to south india and finally, he settled in a place he could stay in, being Gujarat. There, he established his sect from his guru Ramanand Swami, and he became the leader after Ramanand Swami went to the heavens. He and his swamis, males, who got rules of not talking, touching women, staying away form their family, and eating simple vegetarian foods, also came with him. (there are also women saints) Before he would leave the earth, he would create a strong basis of his Swaminarayan sect. He then made 2 acharyas, with their locations ahmedabad and vadtal. These acharyas are the sons of Swaminarayan bhagwan's older and younger brothers, Ayodyaprasad and Raguvirji, respectively. These acharyas would continue to have this blood related ruling of the swmaminarayan sect, even today. The rulers do not rule the religion, simply be the head of spreading the religion. this is the Original Swaminarayan. Anyways, back to swaminaryans life, after he created this sect and a strong basis, he finally passed away back to his heavenly abode, Akshardham. (not the thing in Gujerat.) He is my Ishtadev, and in his life he created sets of rules, the books being Shikshapatri and Vachanamrut. Some rules contain that we cannot kill any living being, we cannot eat meat, drink, smoke, lie, cheat, things like that. If you want to ask any questions on Swaminaryan, his life, or any other questions relating to swaminarayan please ask away.

My Ishta is Shri Ganapati.
Ganapati is the 'saakar' manifestation of Omkar the Naad Bramha itself. His embodiment as a chubby kid with an elephant head in itself is a source of information subtle, important and practical. Mythologicaly considered the son of the Shiva manifestation of the Supreme, Ganesha himself is another manifestation of the Supreme. Recognisable in any form, be it a line drawing or a flower or a crude stone or beautifully decorated and carved pratima, He attracts attention and mesmerises me in every form and shape.
Aesthitically the grossness of an elephant head alongwith an obese human body transforms itself into an epitome of beauty and grace in the form of Ganesh. He is cuddly, cute, gracious, lovable, easy as a kid, and my heart's king.
He teaches me with his appearance that you need to be able to digest all, good and bad alike with ease without batting an eyelid as "Lambodar", He teaches me to keep a keen sight (sookshma drishti) for the slightest of the details as "Pinjaranayan", He teaches me to listen more and to listen to all views and understand them as "Shoorpakarna", He teaches me to know and believe in ONE the Supreme, as "Ekadant", He teaches me to control and overcome vices as "Mooshakavahana", He teaches me to able to expand myself and collect myself from this world as and when needed as "Vakratunda" meaning that HE tells me to perform my wordly duties as a part of the world but also to be able to retract myself from the world when seeking spiritual progress as His trunk can expand and contract on demand, He teaches me to be dexterous and when needed to outperform myself as "Panchahasta", He assures me of happiness as "Modakapriya", He assures me of my safety with His presence as "Abhayahasta", he teaches me to be happy in all circumstances by His own heavy, disbalanced figure expertly dancing as "Nrityaganapati", He teaches me the importance of family and parents as "Umaputra", "Shivasuta"....
I can go on and on when it comes to Shree...
OM Gam Ganapataye Namaha!
