I am just curious to see if anyone has downloaded the pre release 70MB version of XP Service Pack 3. If so what is your opinion. Any problems? Anything I should be aware of if I want to install it on a freshly loaded adn updated XP system?

I have a Media Center XP system, when SP3 was downloaded it screwed everything up. I tried a system restore to my earlier saved restore points and all before the install are magically gone now. When I try to do a roll back it fails half way through. I'd say avoid it, I'm seriously pissed off about it. My log states it was downloaded through Windows auto update, my PC was working fine, I know I didn't manually do it.

Actually win XP now stronlgy needs a new service pack (SP3). There are some issues which has to be fixed with by a service pack. But the problem was, as i know, the microsoft web site has not officially released the SP3. SP3 was in 3rd party websites, which i doubt the reliability.
By the way I'm using windows vista X64 and so far it is the best OS.
So if you can better think of going to Vista.
Regards

I haven't as yet. It's still being "beta" tested by experienced users. Personally, I would avoid it until it's formally released by Microsoft. Let MS and their beta folks work out the bugs before you introduce a big unknown into your PC's. It's not like this will be your only chance to get it.

I'm running XP Media Center 2005 and I keep it up to date with the MS Updates. I won't go for SP3 unless MS releases it as a recommended update.

You might try researching it on www.techrepublic.com and see what they have to say about it.

Hope this helps.
