Magick has been and is being continuously proven by science. When people on here scoff at the idea of magick, I usually laugh because at one time magnets were considered magick, before science came along and called it something else, and that is just one of many examples. Magick is using and manipulating different forms of energy, and we do not yet know just what these energies are or how they work. When science gives them a name and defines them for us, suddenly most will accept it, even though it's the same old thing people have been doing for centuries.
So for me magick has no definition, and it never will, really. That just takes all the fun out of it, like with the magnets lol.

Magic is a performing art that entertains an audience by creating illusions of impossible.
performers like David Copperfield do amazing tricks, but nothing unscientific.
Performer like David Blaine completely and utterly confound us.
This is different from magick.
Magick (the occult kind, spelled with a 'k') is one of the oldest and most general of these systems. Magick is the study and application of psychic forces. It uses mental training, concentration, and a system of symbols to program the mind. The purpose of magick is to alter the self and the environment according to the will. It is a pseudo science at present.
I am a cynic at heart. I can not explain lot of things, but I will wait for explanations. I do not believe in superstition. There are too many charlatan, and godmen playing this game to swindle ordinary folks.

To make magick, happen you gotta believe in it first. Trust me, I have been searching it and it seems to me that I'm the only one who believes in it. Magick is not psychology. It's more like body and the nature energy. The more you put energy into the universe, the more magick will happen. So if you want magick to happen, your chakras must be open and you should be able manipulate the universe's energy. Trust me, it would be a very long road. I have been trying and I think I'm improving. Just be patient and don't give up.

Tahuti, the magick you are speaking of is that which affects the material plane of existence. That is not ALL Magick. Magick is ALSO able to affect the planes of intelligence, Emotion, Spirituality and Time. Some things are NOT addressed entirely by any one single concept or Theory.Magick, by definition is effecting change on ALL the various levels of existence through will alone, using the powers of the spiritual plane. Using "Rules" of the Material Plane alone do NOT suffice to answer ALL the questions.

I agree with you (and Dion Fortune) on this. This is related to my post to a question you posed yesterday (about who practices magick and why) and it is the conclusion drawn from my many years of study in mysticism east and west (and work as an journalist and journal editor on the topic of neurology and neuropsychiatry). But, as you can see from your responses, there is a divide between hermetic-type ceremonial magick and general neopagan magick. One is alchemical and relates to transformation of consciousness and energy, a result of which "can be" a voltional transformation or apparent manipulation of (shared, interpersonal) circumstance--although the primary focus of the adept is catharsis and self-transformation not manipulation of the elements. This is also integral to the higher Yogic and Tantric arts. Another form of magick focusses on manipulation of energy in and of itself. Although persons pursue this moreso than what I will call mystical magick, I have learned that a practitioner must first transform him or herself before he can efficiently transform anything else and when that practitioner gets to that stage, he or she might not want to be bothered with common spell work and magick may flow spontaneously from him or her as an epiphenomenon of the transformational attainment.
BTW You are the ONLY person on this site who asks interesting questions. When you stop, I'll have to quit, because things are just getting too dumb on Answers.

I find this to be one of the most interesting questions asked on Answers. I believe in magick ( to different people it may have different names). I personally believe that it is a well blended mix of psychology and the actual craft. I have studied the craft for well over 30 years with sincerity and respect to the art.I go right along with your definition as I feel it is genuine as well as forthright.

I think the definition of Magick is different for everyone, depending on their individual beliefs. Personally, I see Magick as being able to use one's energy to a particular end. Similar to what you said about power of will. If you believe it, it will happen type of thing. It is essentially positive thinking that will attract positive energy to you.

Magick is the art of using creative visualization to effect change within yourself to help bring about change in the world around you.
Not sure where I got that definition from but that is my story and I am sticking to it.

I don't use any of the New Age spellings for the word magic, but I understand what you are asking.
Changing the will is psychology. Changing the physical world around you, such as and attracting good and repelling bad for example, is magic.
What many people in this modern world forget is the duality of nature. Taoists understand it as does anyone who understands what the Taoist symbol of Yin and Yang represents. But most people do not understand.
Psychology is the study and repair of the mind and the "programing" that each of us have, to achieve emotional balance and stability.
Psychology is both related and not related to magic. Yes, it is that manipulation of the ingrained thought processes such as positive and negative attitude, but then so are most training programs such as you find in military basic training.
Changing the way that you think also changes synapses in the brain to function the way that you wish to begin thinking.
So, as you can see, they are both related and not related.
Many people do not understand the human body and how it works. We, as humans, are capable of producing, in our own bodies, many of the chemicals that doctors use for minor sedation, or even to induce other emotions. The mind can even enter altered states of consciousness.
The manipulation of not just the world around you, but the way that your mind functions is part of that duality also.
