Well... It doesn't sound good.. Either she is in heat and you are smelling blood, or she has a serious infection and needs to be taken care of. If she has Pyometra, she will surely die if you don't take care of this.

Although a ****** in-heat has an odour and her vulva swells, I don't regard the odour as "really bad". She would also have dripped spots of blood as the vulva began swelling.
Therefore the most likely diagnosis is pyometritis, which is an infection inside her uterus. One that is discharging a stinking fluid is bad. One that is NOT leaking is VERY bad.
The normal treatment is a complete hysterectomy before her uterus bursts from the poisonous pressure and gives her peritonitis as well as the pyometritis. If all goes well, she will back home 24 hours later.
There is a chemical treatment (not available in those parts of the USofA that are anti-abortions, according to a vet friend who works in one of those areas), but it is expensive and far from guaranteed, and she would be at the vets on an IV drip during Xmas - only breeders with a precious brood that they HOPE will still be fertile if she recovers can justify the cost.
If she is perfectly happy & fully energetic it COULD be just a heat, and you are exaggerating the odour. But if she lying down more and looking depressed, then no way is it just a heat.
Find out for sure - book in to the vet NOW! A wasted visit is far cheaper than veterinary care during the Xmas holidays,. and which may end up with a dead ****** anyway because you left it too late.

If your vagina was swollen and producing a really bad odor, you would not ask "what is wrong" on Yahoo Answers. You would go to a doctor.
Take your dog to the VET.

If the dog doesn't have a tinge of blood on her vagina, then she could possibly have a urinary track infection, but if she has been this way for at least 10 days, she would have stopped bleeding if just in heat and would be ready to breed a male. Please have your pet checked by a vet if not sure she is in heat cycle.

I'd be worried about some sort of infection. Pyometra (infected uterus) is common in female dogs who are not spayed.
I'd get her to the Vet asap before matters get worse and it becomes more difficult to treat.
Good luck!

She may have an infection setting in or she is going into heat. In either case she should not have a foul ordor coming from her. Call your vet and have her seen. Better to be very safe than sorry.
Especially since it is so close to Christmas you don't want to have to rush her into emergency care Christmas morning!
Good luck!

for particular, warmth. you will get diapers for canine, she would manage to bleed. in case you % to spay her, bear in mind that she remains fertile for as much as two weeks after the surgical treatment, so proceed to maintain her removed from male canine until her wounds sparkling and your docs orders expire. And remember, that seeing her fastened with yet another male is somewhat stressful, and that they can't area until the male's swelling is going down.

You should see a vet. There is an infection called a pyometra that can smell like that. It is very serious.
