First I think It's great that you have given up smoking keep it up it will be the best thing you ever do.

Pop corn is great for snacking if you need it sweeter sprinkle with a low cal sugar.
Another snack food is chick peas ...lightly roast in the oven ..its a great substitute for nuts.

If you really are craving sweets and just can't beat it - grab a dark chocolate bar instead of milk or white chocolate. Its packed with a particular little flavanoid that fights bad cholesterol and clogging arteries and phenol that lowers blood pressure. In fact dark chocolate is said to contain more flavanoids than green tea and even blueberries. Yummy! But be reasonable, it is still high in calories so just a little bar or chunk.

Grapes are good (and their variations, like Sultanas and Raisns) - easy to nibble on, and just take one or 2 at once

Bannanas are a good fruit - full of things like potassium, though also full of energy but at least its a natural energy source, and not processed to death

Dried fruit from the health food shop or in the supermarket (dried bannanas, apples, etc.), again, good to nibble on since you can have one or 2 pieces at a time and not the whole fruit (usefull if you are working for example)

Change the coffee for a water if you want

Cocoa bean is again another good one to nibble on, but you have to wait untill it has been processed a little - I prefer mine to be processed into Dairy Milk bars, but thats a personnal preference

Carrots, because they are naturally sweet with a high glycemic index. Best stuff I've seen is what my wife uses. They are recordings some she has as downloads and others she has cds. They actually cut her appetite off, safely. She just listens 15 minutes a day and now she is exercising, eating just half on her plate...the company is online and is called Independent Achievement .Good Luck!

Congratulations on quitting smoking! I've been there. I actually lost weight as it was the time in my life when I began to examine what I was and wasn't putting in my body and what I was and wasn't doing to myself. There was a time when I would go to McDonald's for lunch and/or dinner in one day and smoke as well.

I agree with the fruit, especially the dried fruit. It's not only sweeter, but portable. Anything Kashi is good, too. For "health food" they're relatively cheap. I think the prices of the granola bars are the same price as, or cheaper than, Quaker (which is not all natural) at some grocery stores. I also like Trader Joe's chocolate chip granola bars. (Trader Joe's is a chain of all natural grocery stores. They're also cheap in price. I get the granola bars for $1.99, my tofu for only $.99 a block, etc.) Trader Joe's also has some fruit and grain bars that are like Nutri-Grain, but better as they are all natural and only about $1.80 a box. (Trader Joe's real food store brand is cheaper than the other store brand's foods with artificial addings.)

I also get frozen strawberries. It's kinda like sorbet, as it's frozen fruit. (The sorbet has just been smoothed out.) I let them thaw a little so they're easier to eat and they're nice and sweet as well.

Chocolate soy milk is also nice and yummy, too. I thnk it's great for a chocolate fix. I've also tried Soy Delicious (or So Delicious, as I've seen both on the containers) soy "ice cream". The chocolate was more chocolatier than even some of the "gourmet" chocolate ice creams I've had. Sugar free dark chocolate is good, too. My husband went through a phase last spring where he did chocolate molds. At the candy making shop we went to, we found some sugar free dark chocolate that is just yummy.

However, my favorite is my chocolate cake. I've seen it as Absurdly Easy Chocolate Cake, but it's also known as Wacky Cake. Some of the recipes I've seen only call for three or four tablespoons of cocoa. The recipe I have calls for six, but I put in about ten rounded tablespoons. I use whole wheat flour and apple sauce in lieu of the oil, so it's fat free. I also put a chocolate frosting with it and use chocolate soy milk for the frosting. I don't feel too guilty about eating cake if it's fat free and has whole wheat flour in it. Even the frosting's not too bad.

Due to space constraints, I have shared the links to the cake and frosting recipe. I think I will make this to take to my in-laws for Christmas. My MIL made it for me after my baby was born, but she didn't do it my way. Also, with all of the pure junk that will be there in terms of dessert, I want something real.

I read in a reputable report recently that sweet cravings actually come from not getting enough sleep. If that isn't the issue, chew some gum. Works for me! Hope this helps.

I go for canned pears (without added sugar) or an apple (fuji's are sweet). Or you could get some cereal that is good for you, but still kinda sweet. The Kashi Heart to Heart is really good and good for you. Kinda tastes like toasted, honey cheerios.

Grapes or tinned pineapple (in juice, not syrup) do it for me. Lychees are great too if you like them, they can be an acquired taste.

Congrats on packing up the smoking!
