I'm trying to make a movie of my family and Windows Movie Maker just seems so limited.
Are there any other options out there?

There are tons out there, but you have to pay for most of them.
Try using Roxio Easy Media Creator 10.
It comes with tons of extra stuff as well as video and audio editing.
