Sin has no bearing war. Either starting one or fighting back is the way of mankind. Most wars are started for the wrong thing, IE. land, natural resources, over population, petty disputes that get out of hand. Oil has started at least one war that I am certain about. That was World War 2 in the Pacific. Japan has no natural resources. They conquered Asia to get what it needed to make things. The United States boycotted Japan from received US oil. As a result of this Japan attacked Pearl Harbor and the Pacific war started. According to their best admiral, the one who led the attack at Pearl Harbor, Japan had just awoke a sleeping dragon. It is because of the lack of natural resources Japan lost that war. Sin had nothing to do with it. The west is mostly Christian, the Japanese at that time believed the Emperor was God.

First, sin cannot exist in actuality beyond the perception of the individual. What is or is not a sin is different for every religion, and these ideas seep into culture, and into the countless minds of our human race.

Second... Okay, ask yourself, is war a sin, as far as you are concerned? Is it a sin to kill with intent? Is it a sin to do nothing, and fail to defend your family? IN religion, sin is often a cloudy subject when used to disuade or encourage war.

The Qur'an, for example, preaches peace. But that doesn't start endless Islamic armies from popping up, claiming to fight for Allah. This is propoganda, and the perversion of a very ancient faith. Christianity is subject to the same perversions, and these are starting to pop up often as of late. What is or is not a sin is up to interpretation. If you are a pacifist, then I suppose it would be a sin to fight back in equal terms. Passive resistance, however, might be interpreted by many pacifists as acceptable.

Personally, I am not subject to the notion of sin, God, or societal expectations, so I'm not sure I can help you. But what I would say is that it all depends on what you belive is right, given your situation, whatever that might be.

When you are attacked you should definately strike back. Strike back to win. If you(we) are going to go to war, lets win the dam thing. As we did in Nam, we are doing again. Fighting a limited war, prolonging it for Corporate America to reap huge profits. When we determined the nationality of the terrorist, that is the country we should have attacked. An attacked to win. We are supposed to be the most powerful nation in the world & once again we are fighting this war with the military having one arm tied behind them. Once again extending the war for the benefit of a few. I think that is where the sin comes to play. When you sacrifice the lives of fellow Americans for dollars you are committing a sin. ( just my belief)

neither is a sin, jesus taught to turn the other cheeck but it also says in the Bible "an eye for an eye" so neither is a sin. You just need to decide if what you are fighting for is worthy of fighting for (i.e. In Iraq America is fighting to end opression and tyrany, I think that God would have no problem with us fighting that war).

its not matter of sin or what so ever its depend on moral and situations, wars sometimes have justifications but not all , u may need to defend ur country's borders but not to invade others moreover if u cant stand war don't go just stay home its okay as long as its a matter of ability
people don't have to fight back as long as they considered them selves civilized we have laws and special institution to maintain laws and orders . if we start fight back life will be very difficult to live

When asked what is the greatest commandment Christ responded "love God with all your heart, mind and soul and with this love your neighbor as yourself". Considering this, I'd have to say that going to war and/or fighting is the path TO sin not away from it.

follow this quote closely:

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things.

The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that NOTHING is worth war is far worse.

He who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature, and has no chance of being made and kept free, except by the actions of men better than himself".

John Stuart Mill.

It's not a sin to go to war if you have been attacked. It is a sin to go to war if you have not been attacked.

How can it be a sin? Guys like Joshua and Gideon went to war and they are in the bible and God apparently liked them enough. If we are going to war against nazis or communists or muslim terrorists God apparently thinks it's OK. Lets do it.

You extremely religious people need something better to do then sit in church. Perhaps we should abolish the military and see how long you people can defend yourself. These questions are supposed to be though invoking i suppose but in reality they are the most idiotic things i have read in a long time.
