Any suggestions for a good holster for a S&W 686 w/ 4" barrel? Not so much for CCW, but to keep it from being exposed to the elements.

I have an Uncle Mikes Sidekick, number 2 that I carry mine in. It holds it secure with a strap over the hammer. Great holster for the money.

The Uncle Mike's nylon hip holster is great for the purpose you intend to use it. Leather is not as durable for outdoor use, like hunting in the wilderness.

I have the same gun, I was issued a holdster by my department that works for the whole 66 line of guns.

Look at Bianchi.
