Yes, the Oats will have the same effect; but remember that oatmeal cookies contain many more ingredients than oats. The sugar, the preservatives, and other ingredients that may not have the health benefit you really want will also have their effect.

(also remember that cookies - have their unique way of enticing us to eat too many of them.)

Oatmeal is a great food! It is also known to be an anti-depressant and is a solid way to start off the morning. The one problme is the level of sugar that can be in oatmeal and especially oatmeal cookies. Watch out for the simple carbs in the AM and maybe heavy up on protein instead.

Well, if you have to absolutely have to have a cookie, oatmeal is a better choice because along with the sugar and fat you are getting some the of the benefits of oatmeal. However, there are much better ways to get the benefits of oatmeal while still feeling like you are indulging such as a nice slice of oatmeal banana bread prepared with lower fat ingredients such as egg whites and skim milk or a warm bowl of quaker oatmeal sweetened naturally with blueberries and raisins. Yum!

the study was done using whole oats. the more processed types werent used in the study, so no one can say for sure if they have the same benefits. if you want to be sure to get the benefits by the least processed oats. any other type hasnt been studied, but may or may not lower your numbers.
