b) I enter quietly and look around for someone I know. If none are found, I introduce myself and get to know other people.

i never walk in alone, i meet up with my friends and we travel together and we always make a beeline to greet our hosts and then grab a drink.
if i have to walk in alone i head for the host too so that they can make introductions if there is people i dont know.
