Yes, maybe its the best time for the 2 to step up to the plate and acknowledge that each other exists and start working for peace, of course now that Hamas has called for a truce.
Cheers!

Because Hamas cannot have it both ways. If they want longterm peace then they must publicly state that they no longer seek Israel's destruction. They don't even understand how juvenile they act; they don't listen to reason, just demand whatever they want and are suprised that no one else takes them seriously. The world, and Israel especially, is not interested in some bully who says "I won't try to kill you for a year, aren't I so nice?" Furthermore, on a practical point Hamas has never fully stopped attacking Israel even during ceasefires; they only reduced the number of attacks. Simply put, Israel is better off without such a puny offer.

Israel rejected it because Israel wanted a free hands in the West Bank but the Palestinian position truce must apply to the West Bank too.

Why not? Because Hamas' charter clearly states that all negotiations and agreements with Israel and Jews are meaningless. It states that any such negotiations and agreements are merely stepping stones to their stated aim of genocide against the Jews and an Islamic waqf across the entire area.
Considering their own charter states that any such agreement is meaningless- how on earth do you expect Israel to be able to come to an agreement with them? Until they change their charter and recognise Israel- they are not a possibility for any form of negotiations or agreements . Right now, they are desperate to buy time to rearm and train more terrorists. being bottled up in Gaza has cut down on their ability to get the weapons of terror they so desperately want.

You, me, and the leaders of the Palestinians all know the purpose of hudna.
It is described very clearly as nothing more than a temporary cease-fire to be enacted when the Palestinians are losing a war. The purpose of HUDNA is to have time to rebuild and prepare for war in the future, and no leader has camouflaged that fact.
We want peace now. If they insist on fighting us, why give them time to build weapons to kill more of us and them and prolong the fighting?

Who said that they did?
If you noticed all the recent attacks in the Gaza have been against Islamic Jihad, not Hamas.
Considering the fact Hamas is the one in charge I do not think that is an accident.
It would not surprise me, and indeed I hope it is true, that talks of some sort are going on behind the closed doors.
Edit--
reading the posts below me I would have to agree. The first step is that Hamas needs to recognize Israel and accept its existence at the same time Israel needs to recognize Hamas as a legitimate political group. If both of those happen then I have better hopes for talks to be successful.

"Long term ceasefire" says it all, it was originally offered to Israel as a 10-year "hudna" if they withdrew to 1967 boundaries.
After 10 years they could resume attacks and presumably Israel could reoccupy the West Bank?
Peace is not on terrorists' minds. A Palestinian state would erase their support and they couldn't satisfy their sadistic urges.

Because Hamas has made no truce initiative - it denies the right of the State of Israel to exist and until it removed that and other anti-Semitic language from its charter or "Covenant" (see: http://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Hamas_Covenant ) everything they say demonstrates they are unwilling to work towards peace.
See: http://www.his-forever.com/hamas_divulges_peace_initiative.htm for an analysis of the Hamas peace initiative which is only a vehicle for Hamas to build up its strength in order to eventually annihilate the state of Israel.
Good Luck!!!

Because there has been many before......They have all been through that movie before.Hamas leaders lie through their teeth. There is no such thing as a longggggggg term truce. It only gives them breathing space to smuggle more arms into Gaza. At this point in time they getting hammered good and solid.

No not necessary to kiss.
But it is necessary for Hamas to delete from its' charter the demand for Israel to be totally wiped out.
How can a 'truce' mean anything when the official Hamas charter states that only Israel's destruction will suffice?
