I love your attitude. You've got me chuckling: "holy crap!" I can almost see the light bulb going on over your head. Isn't discovery wonderful? And, wait, there's more. Every day. Wait'll you read about astronomy, or anthropology, or some other science, with an open mind. You'll be blown away!

I would be wary as Garwy says about anyone asking you to e-mail them to "discuss" this.Having a similar background to yourself it would seem I can honestly say there is nothing more liberating than opening your mind to the reality in which we live.

If you are just wavering then try reading a book called Losing Faith in Faith by Dan Barker.it is the story of his journey from evangelical minister to atheism and the reasons for it.

don't move too fast.

i was thirteen when i realised that the catholic church wasn't for me (they were aiming me for the priesthood at the time) - but i was in my late twenties before i realised that no other church would do either.

the best thing to do is just think about what seems reasonable and decent to you - your creed will then sort itself out as it needs to.

being an atheist isn't really a position as such - it is just the shorthand we use to warn people we won't accept ideas which are obviously untrue or nonsensical.

but it takes time to recognise some ideas as nonsensical. you have time, use it.

[edit]

and be very wary of elderly men who want you to email them privately. (i wonder can you find one on this thread).

hail to the sun god he sure is a fun god

RA RA RA!

Just a little bit of fanfare to welcome you into the fold...

You just hold on to an enquiring mind and question everything - we need more people who put more faith in their own brains than they do in other peoples!
