I know I could just google this kind of thing but I want to hear from the people, you know?
Do they believe they are saved? How? Why? etc.
Are there any criteria?
Thanks in Advance
Happy Holidays!
God Bless!

Are they forgiven from their sins just by repenting and asking?

I honestly don't want to hear anyone that says it's all untrue etc. That doesn't answer my question.

The Catholic religion originated from Jesus giving his prized disciple peter the key to heaven. the name Peter literally means 'rock' so Jesus told him that 'On this rock I build my church' and this church was the Catholic church and Peter was effectively the first Pope.
So Jesus was the beginning of this religion. Jesus sacrificed himself for his people and suffered death. Sacrifice was a normal part of the Jewish religion, it was the appropriate way to be granted forgiveness from God, a lamb was often sacrificed by Jewish high priests at the time. However, the sacrifice of Jesus, the son of God, was the ultimate one for the forgiveness of the Jews' sins. Jesus opened heaven for these people, heaven meant eternal life, so the Jews were saved from total death. They would know be able to enter heaven and live forever as clean, sin-free people loyal to God.
Catholics do however believe that they should uphold their cleanliness to remain eligible to enter heaven.

Do you think that the human kind is in danger? It is not the religion which saves human kind but their character and moral discipline. To teach this or spread this there are several medias. Religion is one of the such things. Some times some religion while teaching the moral values also spreading crooked thoughts. They behave like nasty politicians. They causes splits forming a group, attacking other group directly or indirectly etc. That's why some people hate religions.

You have not accurately defined faith alone Debra. Is grace that we have to work with really grace alone? If we are saved by grace through faith and works doesn't that mean works play a role in saving you? Where is the misunderstanding here? You said it yourself saved by grace through faith AND works. Why not just admit it? I don't have a problem with you personally, in fact you seem very kind and sincere, but either works are needed for salvation, or are the evidence of it. If the former than they are saving works, ergo you believe you are saved by them, at least, in part.

The Catholics and Orthodox (I'm Orhtodox and I have Catholic relitives) will not use saved in a past tence manner- some like my Bishop might use am being saved, but it this is simply from the belief that chosing to follow Christ is the start of the relationship and not the end of it.
Repentance means to turn your life around and over to Christ, but we will still have satan attack us and seek to push us off the path.
We are told that not all who call Christ Lord will be saved and we are also told to becare full less you fall. Christ said that those who don't love those around him and call themselves Christian will not be saved. The key to salvation is love and who am I to say that my controbutions are enough? When we don't follow the path of love they neighboor and let ourselves be full of hate we will face harsher judgment for we know the path Christ wants us to walk but we choose not to while some one who dose not know will be judged less severly.
I know not when my time of death will come so I pray to learn how to better serve God and to serve him. You can not put a minium on love.
The protestant who says "I'm saved and I know I am going to heaven" sounds like they are wishing to do that. Make the new covenent into sign the contract win salvation and not have a real relationship.

Yes, they believe they are saved and if they happen to not be right at the time of death, they think they go to a place called purgatory.
How: baptism, confirmation, they say enough hail marys
Why: some pope said so
Are there any criteria?
You have to accept their beliefs if you want to be catholic
Something I have just learned is that Calvinism is a lot like the beliefs of the catholic church as it was taken largely from St. Augustine.
Merry Christmas!!!!!

they believe they are saved, but they also believe that they can lose salvation if they don't obey God's commandment. they don't believe in "once saved always saved".
and no, Catholics are in no way different from Christians. after all they are the first Christian religion.
they believe in the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and yes they believe they will be forgiven if they ask for forgiveness and repent.

Someone above answers that ''Every thing is in black and white in the Bible''. This is incredible. A collection of texts up to several thousand years old, that has been through dozens of translations and fought over by hundreds of sects for a millenium is 'black and white'?

If you confess within 168 hours after committing sin or sins (quantity is not important, quality is what counts),you stand a chance to be saved. There is no earthly guarantee on that.
168 hours is calculated on the assumption that you commit sins from Monday morning to Sunday morning as and when you can and you confess Sunday morning before that morning ends .

Of course they do. All the Christian religions, of which there are dozens, believe they are saved. You worry about your salvation in whatever form you wish and leave others to get on with theirs.

I'm Catholic but I'm not answering on the grounds that I think this is just another pathetic attempt to belittle my faith, or at the very least to make you feel better about your own faith by asking loaded questions.
