For Monorail
A monorail is a transportation system based on a single beam. The term is also used variously to describe the beam of the system, or the vehicles travelling on such a beam or track. The term originates from the contraction of the words mono (single) and rail, from as early as 1897[1], as early systems used metal rails

But Metro Rail is not a technical term about Rails but its about the city ( metro city where the Rail works)

Metro rail is a broad term, usually referring to rapid transit.
A monorail system is any of several systems in which trains ride on or under a single rail.
Meter gauge (1 meter) is fairly common in some areas. Broad gauge (5 feet) is usually associated with Russia and Spain. Standard gauge is common in the U.S. and most of Europe. It is 4 feet 8 and one half inches. A small number of U.S. railroads use 3 foot narrow gauge.
