No, just because she's recovered doesn't mean that her whole body is good to go yet. I'd put it off for a couple more weeks.

She did not have smallpox unless she works in a highly regulated Centers for Disease (CDC) laboratory, where they have a sample of the virus. The World Health Organization (WHO) states that Smallpox no longer exists in nature. You probably meant Chickenpox.

Chickenpox (rarely) can be quite dangerous during the first 20 weeks of pregnancy. Although the likelihood of complications is low, the severity of possible complications warrant attention to the disease as it relates to pregnancy. The CDC does recommend waiting 1 month after getting a chickenpox vaccination before becoming pregnant. However, the strength of an actual infection is more than you would get with a vaccine, so 1 month may not be enough. I have heard 3 months, but do not take that as 100% accurate, because I can't find the source. Do wait at least a month after she is well, then consult an OB doctor.

Any OB docs care to clarify this?

:)

There has not been a case of smallpox in the US in over 20 years...probably much longer than that.

I think you mean chicken pox...BIG difference.

You would need to contact your doctor about your question. As for the scars, that is common and they may fade over time. It is not very common for an adult to get chicken pox. Most people are exposed in childhood. Adult chicken pox can have serious consequences (I had a 19 year old patient one who died from it).

Ask your doctor for more information.

Check with your doctor. For the other answerers, Small Pox hasn't been eradicated. I know of 2 people that have caught it in the UK recently. It just wasn't in the news. Homeless people get it too. So, don't listen to them. Mind you, the chances are, it was chicken pox.

For your kind information Small pox has been eradicated from the world. It can be some viral eruptions like chickenpox etc. I would recommend you to wait for a week more and give her good immunity building diet/Medicines as suggested by your Family Doctor and everything will be fine

it depends on your doctor, but if it were my husband and I then I would say yes, but it is always best to talk to your doctor because you are trying for a baby and you dint want anything to hinder that and if your doctor says that there is a chance that the baby could be infected some how, you just never know about these things babies are such a wonderful gift from God I would take every precaution I could to ensure a health pregnancy.God Bless hope things work out for you and your wife.

Are you sure it was "Small Pox" and not another kind of "pox" that happened to be small.

If you live in North America or Europe, she probably didn't have small pox.

If you live elsewhere... Does your wife think she's ready?
