Anti-theism.

Theism exists.

An atheist can't be anti God. You have to believe something exists before you can be "anti-" it.

And yes, there is a certain militancy to it, but it's a militancy of minds and reason and intellect and evidence, rather than a militancy of guns and bombs and emotional manipulation and abuse.

That's why we're stronger than you guys (we think).

The question was "Are the those who claim to be Atheists in this section more Anti-theism or Anti-God than Atheist?"

I was making no claims about your level of education, or to know about more things than you do.

I was simply making the point that a person who does not believe in God is criticising belief, not the object of that belief.

It would be absurd to direct your criticism at an entity you don't believe exists.

And yes, I stand by my assertion that many religious believers use their religious ideologies as a cover to abuse others. And that in such cases reason is stronger than bullying, or at least that is my hope.

Feel free to email me, if my position is not clear, or if you wish to challenge it in a reasonable way.

Not all Theists who believe in "revealed" religions are uneducated. Many are just naive or living in denial or still fear the unknown. The fact remains that in countries where the populations have the lowest levels of literacy and education, people tend to be the most fervently religious and superstitious. It's more than mere coincidence. But even a well-read person who believes that some invisible angry man sits on a throne up in the sky and dictates everybody's personal life with threats of eternal torture, still believes in a piece of nonsense that was concocted by men in power long ago to help keep the ignorant masses fearful and under control. He just happens to be well-read, that's all.

the apparent lack of logic I suppose, I mean come on someone asks a question and they get an answer which makes no logical sense. Its as if some people of faith just throw scripture at you instead of apparently challenging themselves to answer the question in a way someone without the same faith could understand.
Its like I ask...
'Do you like hamburgers.' And the reply is...
'The cucumber is greener than the carrot.'
Its just bloody mental I tell ya.
Surely if faith is worth something, it would stand up to scrutiny ?
Honest and open scrutiny at that.

Sorry, my friend.

***many

and...

People with higher educations, as in academic achievement, PhD's and such, tend to be less religious than those of us with lower educational attainments.

Part of this is perhaps due to the saturation of our universities of liberal faculty, and those who believe that evolution and the "Big Bang" and spontaneous generation are facts that occurred without the presence or necessity of God's intervention and creation. Since their "science' is based upon what can be described and proven, it is difficult to argue with them---perhaps pointless.

The existence of "militant atheists" is in large part due to the widespread perception that religion has caused all of the world's problems. Christians and Moslems and Jews created war, slavery, disease, etc...these things are taught as fact...

Just because they are taught as fact does not make it true.

Also, there is no statistical correllation between faith and IQ.

Lastly, a lot of people do not understand the metaphorical nature of many Bible stories---their education and the fact that it was usually received in very precise terms does not allow it---I saw a question from Magley64 today, something like, "If God is all powerful, and He wrestled with Jacob all night, why didn't God win?" Sheesh, we all wrestle with God in one way or another, wrestle with doubts and fears and questions and anger, but this guy thought that God versus Jacob was a WWF cage match or something...sheesh...(unfortunately, I'm sure that some Christians interpret it literally, too.)

the metaphorical nature of many Bible stories provides plenty of ammunition for those who wish to dispute or mock it. And the Bible is a big honking target...

Waiting for you to come online...B

Just let them think what they want to. It takes a lot of faith and intelligence to believe in God and we have it. Besides from the answers i've seen that's pretty the only thing that they think they have against us.

Atheists think that believing in God is unreasonable and irrational. Since most people equate reason and rationality with education, they think that believers are uneducated.

One cannot be intellectually honest - I maintain that this is impossible - and still remain a fundamental Christian or Muslim.

The most guarded thinkers in the world are those who try to balance an honest and objective education with faith. It does not serve the individual or the education well.

It is simply scandalous and deceptive and at worst, delusional.

That is the stereotype of the southern baptist. Ignorant, and proud of it.
Obviously you're not all like that, but enough of you are to make those sorts of people the most commonly found ones.

I have 4 university degrees and 6 national certifications.
I am a Creationist and a "Fundy".

I almost never mention them or use them (until some self-aggrandizing atheist comes along in desperate need of attention).

This answer from Snout has no depth, and it's not accurate. Dozens of atheists here are so anti-God and anti-Christian that they drool for opportunities to insult either one. They demonstrate by their actions regardless of their beliefs.

John Galt:

Science is based on observations and tests. There is no such thing as rationality where God is assumed to not exist. There is no room for untested assumptions in science.

Atheism and science therefore can't mix.
Agnosticism and science are compatible.
Faith and science can easily be related when faith is based on experience, which it usually is.

Anyone who says that Christians can't be educated is a simple bigot. I'd be happy to debate this with any educated atheist here, the trouble is that almost all the atheists who post here are so immature and unsophisticated, there is no value in simple discussion.
