I don't like to say "I'm going to powder my nose".. or "Excuse me" and just leave... depends on the situation, of course. But then again... well if you take too long people gonna start to wonder and think or say things... Because, let's face it... everybody knows where you're going and what you are doin' (well... not "exactly"). Happens all the time and some people are really weird and I knwo people who just "hold it up" till i's over. What would u recommend?

I just put "powder my nose", because I live in Mexico, and it is used as a joke or a pun sometimes... hehehe... not nice at all. But I know some people still use it without being aware.

I agree with the poster who said 'no need to announce it'. There isn't.

Try to go BEFORE the meeting or dinner, in order to avoid the issue altogether.

But if you have to, you have to! Simply say "Please excuse me for a minute" and go about your business.

If anyone questions you, you can simply say "I need to go to the bathroom" and go.

That should also stop them asking you what you are doing next time they stick their noses in, too.

When you get back, just rejoin the group as though nothing had happened.

Cheers :-)

In England we don't have words like 'bathroom' or 'restroom'. Bathroom is only used where there is actually a bath, and therefore we don't refer to using the toilet as 'going to the bathroom'./

Therefore us Brits can only say 'excuse me' or tell the truth and say 'I'm just going to the toilet'. I've never heard anyone in England say 'I'm going to powder my nose', or 'freshen up'. The most out-there I've heard was 'I'm just going to use the facilities'. Hmmm!

Just excuse yourself. Simple. No need to even announce you're going to the bathroom. Why do people need to know your toiletry habits, you could be going off to make an urgent call for all they know.

I would just say, with a smile, "Excuse me...I'll be right back!", then just get up and leave. There's no need for details of any sort usually.

Just say "Excuse me, I'll be back shortly." They will get the idea. No need to spell it out.

Yeah just say "excuse me" or ask for the rest room, bathroom just doesn't sound great.

I usually just say "Excuse me I need to use the restroom". Enough said.

i don't think it's bad manners. you don't want to make people wonder where you are. i think saying, "excuse me, i need to go to the restroom" sounds better than bathroom.

I just say "ill be right back". No need to announce it, and who knows, they might think your running off to do important things.

No need to give a reason. Simply say, "I'll be right back." (or, in your case, "Ahorita vengo." and use "Con permiso" as you pass others.)
