Everybody who is getting a security clearance or has a security clearance gets a background investigation and has an SF86 maintained on them. Even if your husband already has a security clearance, there are periodic background checks and new paperwork to be filled out. IIRC, it's every 15 years for a secret clearance and every five years for a top secret clearance.

As long as your husband has been a good boy, there is nothing to worry about. This is normal.

Sounds like they are trying to confirm him for a National Security Clearance b/c SF 86 means standard form 86. This is a routine form filled out by people entering National Security positions. An example would be if the nature of his duties in Iraq required him to handle Secret, Sensitive, or Top Secret information he would fill this form out stating his history probably going back 7 to 10 yrs. If OPM called that may mean he has a mistake in his filing. They may also of course be requiring information about you which he would be representing as your spouse. You will probably be contacted later and informed in a meeting about the do's and don't s, especially if you are planning a move overseas.

It sounds like he's moving into a pretty important job, he's lucky. A lot of people don't even qualify for one reason or another.

A Salam a Lakum

sf85P is a standard form for security clearance and background checks. Once you have served in the military for over 4 years, become an officer or just get recruited for a high clearance job, this form will ALWAYS come into play.

It is nothing to worry about. They just send your family and friends a form in the mail asking them if they know you and if you are telling the truth about your past.

Once you are cleared you receive a top secret or confidential clearance.

Not sure, but I know what I loved that I got recently after my wife showed it to me. It's a cd and a download called Haven of Peace for Soldiers Overseas from a company called Independent Achievement. It has totally helped reduce my stress level and I use it on a daily basis...just 15 minutes a day.
