Quit. Cold Turkey. Put everything on a shelf and walk away. That's what I do when I need to focus on life moreso than having nothing to do. Or, if you really want to quit for good, sell it all on EBAY. You'll make a good chunk of change in the process, too.

wow- I can totally relate: to the girlfriend!

I actually forced my boyfriend to sell is PS2 because it was out of control! (Practically I said "either it goes, or I do". He didn't have a job, he was not doing his school work, and I contantly yelled at him! He wouldn't clean the house and he was home ALL DAY!

I think you should sell it. It's total benfical all around::: You can make money by selling it, save money by not getting games, improve your schooling, get a job, and improve your relationship with your girlfriend!

If you have no cash flow, how you taking her out and getting her new things?

My boyfriend sold his, got his life back on track, is a great daddy (now), and it's been about 14 months since he's been without video games or systems. SOOO this Christmas, I'm surprising him with a PS3 because he's done so great.

I hope it won't lead to bad behaviors again, because he might have forgotten how to keep it in check. But I've spent over $700 for games and crap this Christmas because I think he deserves it... as long as he can keep it in check.

So, I don't know what to tell you other then sell it. I think you're first step is something you've already accomplished: realizing you have a problem. My friend got a divorce because her husband would only ever play xbox-- and she said "it's me or the xbox" and he said "then I want the xbox".

It really does ruin lives, I don't think people know how bad of a situation it can be until it's already been destructive. Good luck to you!

Thats a hard thing. Breaking any addiction is very hard. You need support and understanding. Some people won't understand that it is an addiction and say "just don't play" but don't get yourself down.
You need motivation to stop. Good grades and girlfriend time must take priority - maybe some career-pathing, too. Try and set aside some time to play, but have an alarm that'll go off or something. TV sleep timer might help. No five more minutes, either - not even for a save spot!
It all depends on if you wanna stop completely or gain self control and know when to stop. I've heard of at least 2 everquest horror storys - one ending in a divorce!
You just have to set a plan and enact it - slowly cutting back or cold turkey could work - its your decision. Have your parents, friends and girlfriend help you and get you involved in different activities!
Good luck!!!

Listen kid my brothers are going through the same thing. But what you really need to do...is stop playing for awhile. find something else in the world you can do. I maybe if you enjoy video games so much you could try finding a career in a graphic designing. But if you want to save everything else you really need to pick a time of the day were you have nothing else planed and all the free time in the world...or maybe on day of the week, and just limit your gaming to that. Youll fing life much more esay going.

If you love video games so much, then maybe you should make your career related to video games, like a game designer or something along those lines. Try to make strengths from your weaknesses.

You really need to start organizing your life more.
Set a designated time to play the games and a time when you do school work and leave the most of your time for your GF
Don't you like her enough to stick around with you ?

Lol you sound a lot like my brother, find other activities you might be interested in..and if you're that addicted you might want to try to balance a little bit, take her to one of these arcade places, or invite her over to play some games with you or something, it's not hard you just need to give your girlfriend the attention she needs. But again..FIND OTHER ACTIVITIES!!

As much as it hurts, throw the video game out. Delete it from your computer. Erase it from your memory even. It worked for me and its probably the easiest way to get rid of a bad addiction like this.

ya know you gotta deal with this situation with your willpower you cannot get rid of your addiction unless you try to...trying doesnt mean asking people on the net how to get rid of it...take a good deep breath and divert your mind whenever its hungry for a play its like a drug addiction once youll stop playing video games youll feel restless and depressed..but u still gotta hold on and belive in your will power...whenever you feel like you wanna play get outta your house and play tennis or something like that (just divert your mind off that x box)...youll feel like pathetic for a few weeks but after that your mind automatically going to adjust and it will learn to live without the video games....but its a very difficult process but keep your willpower strong and ull get rid of your addiction..
