"Percocet is considered stronger than Vicodin, but both will do the trick.

Both medications are available in 5mg, 7.5mg, and 10mg pills. Each pill is mixed with about 500mg of Tylenol, which isn't your liver's bestfriend, so if you can get the 10mg pills, go for it.

Depending on your weight, I would start out with about 20mg. If 45 minutes to an hour passes and you're not really feeling it, go for another 10mg or 20mg.

If another 30 minutes passes with still no results, sorry, this just isn't the drug for you. It is possible to feel nothing on your first try, so you may want to try again in a couple days.

As far as price is concerned, you should be paying a MAXIMUM of $5 for a 10mg pill or $2.50 for a 5mg pill. Generally 50 cents a milligram is considered acceptable. Some people do charge between $8 and $10 for 10mg pills, but thats really overkill. It'd be easier to just go to your doctor and complain of backpain."

Actually, it depends on the kind of pain and how severe it is. I take Vicodin for chronic pain, but when I had problems with kidney stone the Vicodin didn't work for that. The doc prescribed Percocet which did the trick. From personal experience I'd say that the Percocet is the stronger of the two.

both percocet and hydrocodone have a short half life. only about 4 hours. Percocet(or oxycodone, i think they are pretty much the same) comes also in a long acting form. supposedly about 12 hours. but if you have sudden excruciating pain attacks i would take the short acting or short half life vicodin or percocet. In my experience yes Percocet is stronger but perhaps only 2x as strong, but again i could be off.

I think the winning answer was wrong about starting off at 20mg. You should always try to start at the lowest about 5mg, and take some alleve(otc naproxen) and tylenol with it(don't take more than 8 500mg tylenol, aka acetaminophen per day. tylenol will ruin your internal organs worse than the opioid in the pill. remember percocet has acetaminophen in it so curb your otc tylenol according to how many percocets or hydrocodone you take a day)

After 3 days off of Vicodin 30 mg per day, i'm not doing too badly. although since i'm on about 7mg of clonazepam a day(clonazepam aka Klonopin is a strong benzodiazepine. benzo family includes valium, xanax, lorezepam, ativan etc). I think that im on clonazepam the stopping of vicodin has been eaiser. i do miss this wonderful vicodin daydreams though.

you may think this bullshit but benzos are much harder to withdraw from than opioids and opiates, including heroin

This depends on the milligrams of pain killer. I think they are use separately for different situations. Overall I do believe percoset is used in more chronic situations. Percoset has a larger street value and doctors tend to not want to prescribe it unless the patient doesn't respond to vicodin, or is in sever pain.

I've taken Vicodin for 14 years now for uncontrollable pain. I takes, sometimes up to an hour to work but, I'm patient.

I realize some drugs will work faster. When I was paralyzed and in bed for seven months I was on something the doctor neglected to tell me. I told him what I was allergic to.

I had flashback nightmares from 'Nam and the prison camp and fighting, I was relieveing my worst moments in life.
When I was lucid and O.K. I knew the one nurse thought it was funny and, was laughing. I approached her and, read her the riot act, the doctor asked if I wanted to press charges, I told him "no" and let it go.

Some drugs are not meant for man-kind.

What happens if I miss a dose?

Since acetaminophen and hydrocodone is taken as needed, you may not be on a dosing schedule. If you are taking the medication regularly, take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. Do not use extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
