I have a nikon d40
how do you adjust the shutter speed/aperture?
I'm new to photography.
how do you go from 1/60 to 1/300?
thanks in advance
any information will be much appreciated.

You can control shutter speed on a D40 by (S) or (M) mode.

Use your right-thumb wheel. You will notice that you do not have 1/300. It goes from 1/250 to 1/320.

Both are close. But with a sensor I prefer 1/320.

If the aperture stays fixed, the amount and duration of light falling on the sensor will decrease as the shutter speed increases.

Packed in the box your camera came in is the Owner's Manual. You need to READ & STUDY it throughly before trying to use your camera.

I agree that taking a few photography classes would be a good idea.

Until you understand the controls, put it on AUTO pilot.
