if science does prove there is a god...?

and this god reveals that the abrahamic god was made up by men, and the real god has a completely new set of rules that he or she wants you to live by, would you worship this god or would you continue to worship a fake god? before i get answers from christians saying this will never happen, consider this. are you saying it is impossible for science to prove the existence of a god? this would go against the idea of intelligent design, wouldn't it? or are you saying that whatever god science proves the existence of, it will definitely be your god? in that case what is the point of teaching intelligent desing if it's only going to confirm what is already known? if it's as much truth as say the sky being blue, there's really no point in delving further into the matter, is there?

I'm having a little trouble with the plausibility of science proving the existence of God, but okay -- I'll play.

As an atheist, if I found the evidence truly convincing, I guess I would become a follower of God, provided that God actually wanted followers and His/ Her rules actually made sense. I mean, if all I have to do is stop eating Jello and follow the golden rule, I'm in. If I have to sacrifice babies, I'm out. I don't care what the penalty is.

And, of course, should any evidence come up later to cast doubt on God's existence again, I'm going back to being an atheist.

If science proves there is a god, like good scientists must, they will have promulgated a clear definition of what they mean by the word "god." Then, depending on what definition they use, I will believe or not believe. Or perhaps I will find it true but trivial.

Actually, there are plenty of definitions of God which can be proven, at least by logic. But the relationship to that which is described in the Bible is rather remote. There are some good attempts at doing exactly that in "What the Bleep Do We Know?" and earlier books like "The Book on the Taboo Against Knowing Who You Are" by Alan Watts and "The Dancing Wu Li Masters" by Gary Zukav.

I think the desire for direct worship is a human concept . I can't see any true god (or even a non-psychotic great world leader ) wanting people to 'worship them' Appreciate , say "Thank you , wave candles while he rocks out , ...sure . Would I follow this god ? First question I would ask is :"Why did he let life on earth here suffer for so long ?".
And I am sure science will someday discover SOMETHING they can define as "god" . Sagan said "God could be defined as all that exists inside of and outside of the known universe" OK by me . Someone else said "god" is dog spelled backwards . Also OK by me .

I think that if you believe there is only one God, then if you discovered the existence of a God who wants completely different things than you previously thought God wanted, you would have to conclude that you were mistaken about God's wishes, but not necessarily that you were worshiping the wrong God, because how can you worship the wrong one if there's only one?

And what if science proved that God really wants us to sacrifice babies in church while singing Beegees songs? I just don't think I could do that.

Take a look around you from where you sit. You will notice that everything in the room is ‘made’:

the walls, the upholstery, the ceiling, the chair where you sit, , the glass on the table and countless other details.

None of them happen to exist in your room of their own accord.

According to the theory, inorganic molecules formed amino acids by chance, amino acids formed proteins by chance, and finally proteins formed living creatures again by chance.

However, the probability of a living creature being formed by coincidence is less than the probability of the Eiffel Tower being formed in the same manner,

because even the simplest human cell is more sophisticated than any man-made structure in the world.

How is it possible to think that the balance in the world came about by coincidence when the extraordinary harmony of nature is observable even with the naked eye?

Therefore, there should be an owner of the balance visible everywhere from our body to the farthest corners of the inconceivably vast universe.

So, who is this Creator that ordained everything so subtly and created all?

He cannot be any material being present within the universe, because His must be a will that existed before the universe and created the universe thereupon.

The Almighty Creator is One Whom everything finds existence, yet Whose existence is without any beginning or end.

Religion teaches us the identity of our Creator Whose existence we discover with our reason.

Through what He has revealed to us as religion, we know that He is Allah, the Compassionate and the Merciful, Who created the heavens and the earth from nothing.

All of this evidence leads us to the conclusion that the universe works with a certain ‘consciousness’.

What, then, is the source of this consciousness?

Surely it is neither the living nor the non-living beings in it.

The existence and glory of Allah reveals itself in countless proofs in the universe.

In fact, there is not even a single man on the earth who will not accept this evident reality from the heart.

Yet they still deny it ‘in iniquity and arrogance though their souls are convinced thereof’ as stated in the Qur'an. (Surat an-Naml, 14)
