How is the quality of Taurus revolvers? They are inexpensive but I have heard the quality is hit or miss.

I remember shooting a ported Taurus tracker with a 7 round cylinder a few years back. At one point one of the rounds in the cylinder got stuck, and I had to swing open the cylinder and push the round back in.

Plus, there is just something funny about it. It didn't feel solid.

I'd go with a Smith and Wesson.

I have a S&W 686 .357mag. and my dad has a Taurus 669VR .357mag. Both are stainless and except for the vent rib on the Taurus the guns look the same. The action is just as tight on the Taurus as the S&W and there's no difference in accuracy. I could have saved some money by buying the Taurus and had more to buy ammo with. As with any gun you are going to find someone that's not happy with their's. Personally, I'd go with the Taurus. I'm happy with my Smith but in my humble opinion, it's no better than the Taurus. Remember to always wear ear and eye protection when shooting and be safe and have fun.

Taurus' are usually considered "average" firearms at best, but their quality has been improving rapidly over the last few years. I now own 2 Taurus revolvers(605 and 22 mag Tracker) and both are good shooters. They may not be as good as S&W or Ruger yet, but they are much better than some people remember. If you like the 608, then buy it. It should be a good dependable personal defense gun for many years.

Most hunter know that it is not always the most expensive that is the best. I believe that Taurus makes a very good revolver. I have a Taurus revolver that shoots a .410 shotshell as well as a .45. I have had no problems with it and i get compliments about it whenever I go hunting. I use it as a snake gun and also for self defense. I have it in stainless steal but they also offer it in Matte. They offer it in different barrel lengths depending on how you will use it.

Twenty-five or thirty years ago, Taurus handguns were pretty shoddy. However, since the late-1980's, quality has improved vastly.

I don't care for the Raging Bull because of the twin cylinder release scheme. But their other revolvers and semi-automatics are pretty danged good guns.

On average, I'd say Taurus quality is about as good as currently made Smith & Wessons. But nobody makes handguns as good as Smith & Wesson did 40 years ago. And that includes currently made Smiths!

I've never owned one, but they do come with a lifetime warranty, so that speaks for itself that the manufacturer is willing to back their product. If you're getting one for self defense, I recommend a 357 or larger caliber in a 4-inch barrel. If its for hunting, or protection while walking through the woods, go with a 44 magnum w/ 6-inch barrel. This cannon is in case you run into a bear, who may charge at you. Taurus almost went out of business back in the 80's due to extremely poor quality. They literally turned themselves around in '85 with new designing, better grades of steel and an entirely new Q&A department. As long as your weapon is made later than that ( serial numbes will tell you), you should be in good shape, providing your weapon hasnt been abused, mistreated or altered by a previous owner. If you are looking at new, you should be in great shape. Even if you buy a new weapon with troubles, the factory is offering an excellent warranty and they stand behind it. Good luck and safe shooting.

Taurus and S&W are about the same today. I own both.
Even their PT-1911 is impressive.
I am presently carrying the Taurus 85 Titanium with laser grips. Love it!

I think the quality is more miss than hit. They use Smith and Wesson patents but the labor and quality control is in Brazil (whih I believe is a third world country). I wouldn't take one if it was given to me (unless I didn't have a gun).
