I'm sure the reason you are asking this is because you have "born again" friends who mistakenly believe that they are Christians, and no one else is.

Do you have any idea how many questions show up on here such as yours (Lutheran vs. Christian), Christian vs. Catholic, Christian vs. Presbyterian, etc... ?

Go back to the creeds: "I believe in the Holy CHRISTIAN Church..." and "I believe in the Holy Christian and Apostolic Church..." .

All who profess faith in Christ ARE CHRISTIAN, regardless of what the fundamentalists try and tell us.

I am starting to get really sick of the ego-centric, Holier than thou, attitude that so called decision theology seems to imprint on these people. They should be rejoicing that people of other Christian denominations have faith in Christ's Salvation too.

A fellow Christian, and a Confessional Lutheran,

Mark

There is no difference. Lutherans are Christians. They're Protestant Christians, to be more specific. There are many denominations within Christianity, including the Lutherans. There are different types of Lutherans (ELCA, Missouri Synod, Wisconsin Synod, and so on), and they're all Christians.

Lutheranism is part of Christianity. Your question might have made sense if you contrasted Lutheranism with Roman Catholicism. Your question is like asking how is America different from country.

There are a number of different denominations within the Christian religion. Lutheran is one of them. So is Baptist, Methodist, Presbyterian, etc. Each of those denominations believe in God and Jesus Christ, but they have slightly different beliefs about what they think His law for us is. It's just different interpretations.
