I hear all the time "well you just didn't read your Bible" (read it cover to cover) "You didn't ask sincerly enough" (Really? I was DYING. You dont really get more sincere then that) I am told I am in denial of the "truth" (oh, I didn't realize that you watched me bleed out).
Do I think Christianity is "wrong"? Nope. I've met people who I have NO doubt have been called by God *Cheers to Father K and Primero* but I can't stand how people just assume they know my story, my pain, or my life. Just because I don't see the divine as you do, I didn't TRY hard enough? Why do some Christians just make totally off base assumptions?

You bring up an intersting poit Lucid.
I am very comfortable in my present beliefs but I admit I am still angry at how I was treated as a Christian. That had no bearing on why I am not a Christian NOW, but I feel truly aweful for those Christian who are in the situation I WAS in. I give props to the Christians who deserve it, and I will go to great lengths to stop the Christians who don't. I get frusterated with Christians who assume they know why I am not Christian. They don't.

I'm not "bitter". Am I disappointed in "christians"? Yeah I really am. While I'm not Christian I have read the Bible and I see Jesus message. Most people are so far off of the message it's just sad. By telling people they are going to hell, by assuming you know people's story, by calling others "false Christian" you have become a Pharisee. Jesus didn't like them much. I just wonder when the last time that some Christians took a hard look at THEMSELVES. Matthew 7:3. Good verse.

You're not alone. Many here assume all Christians are illogical idiots, and many here assume that all Atheists are blind morons.

Read the book The Taruk by Joseph Flavius and that should answer all your Questions about Christian garbage! I got my copy at Coles bookstore! It was hiden behind some other books! I almost didn't find it! The Christians don't want one to read The Taruk by Joseph Flavius because The Christians are the ones that are really in denial of what's what! Saved by Grace Save by love.. I don't believe that because the so called Christians I've come across are nastier and nastier and nastier.. too many prejudicisms they harbor.. and that is really against the bible to harbor any prejudicisms! The Bible itself is Necronenimcom work mudding up the words of truth! It is using the fear principle.. if you don't accept Christ you go to hell! What happens if you accepted Christ then drop out of the acceptance because the promises didn't hold any merit or value?

Unfortunately there are many Christians who wish to use religion as a club. I am sorry you have had to deal with these sorts of things. Realize that God is beyond us. Any understanding of God is seen through imperfect perceptions. Try reading the "Screwtape Letters" and "The Great Divorce" by CS Lewis (No, it's not about a divorce). Awesome reading and really makes you think about how we act toward each other as Christians. If you can honestly say that you have done your best everyday to seek the Lord, then you are moving in the right direction. Check out some Keith Green music as well. He really laid thigns on the line for us as Christians. Remember, God sees you as his child. Kids make mistakes, learn form them and move on. Don't allow people to throw them in your face. Soli Gratia.

I think the only answer to this is that all Christians are human so "some" Christians are WAY off and out of line.
"Some" Christians use the Bible as a mask to hide behind. Some people use money, popularity or a poor childhood...Some Christians use God.
It isn't right.
Saying what God wants us to say takes effort and a listening ear...which "some" Christians don't have - or know how. I don't. I still love people, but heck if I can say what I'm supposed to say when I'm supposed to say it.
But beyond all that...
ARE YOU OKAY? Are you okay? Please email me....

I don't know your story so I don't know that I can answer your question. All I know is it sounds like you had a look at maybe dying and I have done that via cancer. I can some what feel you as to not seeing the divine as others and I think it's harder to when you are actually faced with the reality of it happening. Some do it it out of ignorance, what can you say because they haven't been there but think they are helping. My mom gave me a book in the hospital about what happens when you die, THANKS MOM, but she did out of love and I know she was only trying to help. Some people can do damage if they don't understand but forget how wrong they come across, they may be trying to help, and be grateful that they care. It may be frustrating but honestly they may be as cofused as you and try to come up with an answer when there's not one.

Right there with you, my friend.
I've studied the Bible, I was an abused child (can't get much more sincere in wanting God's love and comfort other than being in the process of dying) and I do think there are true and good Christians (my cousin is one).
Just..... know that you are aware and have found the path you were called for. Most of those "pat" answers are just tossed out there as a way of dismissing you so they don't question their own reality and religion.

I think people in general "generalize" to some extent.
The only thing I have thought about you is that there is something that is not quite tied up within you about your previous life as a Christian. I dont know if something happened by a Christian person that scarred you or you havent fully felt comfortable in your new religion sufficiently, or youre just still angry a bit about Christianity.
So, I might be one of those people...however, I would have never written that to you had you not brought up this question. Gods peace.

One thing that christianity tries to accomplish is to "homogenize" society. Everyone would be alike if everyone was christian. Supposedly, this would make the world a better place. The platitudes used by these people have no basis in fact, but are meant to persuade through illogic. Common sense, once again, is uncommon here.

Instead of allowing people to figure out why your not a Christian, why don't you tell them. I read your question and I really do not know your reason for not being one. How about you tell us why you aren't a Christian? Then we can go from there. I'm a Christian and would like to give you some input, but I don't go off assumptions or play guessing games. Maybe some chritians assume they know your story because your not giving them enough information not to...

It's too bad, but one of the psychological hangups of having one god is that you must categorize everything into simple yes-no, right-wrong answers. They're trying to peg you in, either you fit in the hole they have slotted or not... so you're either 'christian' or 'not religious.' A pagan's mind uses multiple slots, squares, rectangles, triangles, octangles, circles, ovals... (each devloped by different gods) so if you don't fit into the Christian Square (if you do, that's good, that's your ideal religion) then you can fit into the Buddhist circle, or the Hindu Rectangle, or the Asatru Oval, or the Wiccan Triangle... etc.

in the fundie mind, there is only room for one thought at a time.
they are projecting their own doubts onto you, their own feelings of worthlessness. otherwise, they wouldn't need to be so vocal about it.
even tho i believe that it was the product of rebels and then a tool of emporers, i agree that christianity is just as valid a spiritual path as any, when it is followed sincerely and without judgment. but the fundie is incapable, for whatever reason, of seeing the humanity in others, so he uses his book to judge and condemn. all we can do is point out their lies and hope for a net benefit on the side of tolerance.
my theory is that they see the horrible things people do and forget about the good stuff, so they retreat into a fog of self-hatred, which is bolstered by the concept of original sin, confirming and perpetuating their self-hatred. original sin is fine if it helps you spiritually, but not if you're using it to condemn others.
