dbu - st nicholas was a greek man who gave stuff to the poor - that is how that came about! and there was snow at the time as well so that is why in the winter!

little known fact: there was a temple of santus claussius in the roman forum, but the cult of the tooth fairy swooped down out of the north and dessicated it in the early 20th century b.c.e. out of fear that claussius would steal the loyalty of the little children from the tooth fairy. the only survivors were two dudes named romulus and remus.
the cult objects were deposited in the north pole sea [it was a tropical zone back then] in the belief that they would be lost forever. about the same time, the elves split from the eskimos [ever wonder why they both start with a 'e'?] and rode their reindeer to the edges of the ice cap overlooking the north pole. they used their magic to freeze the tropic zone, and in the process churned up the relics of the claussius cult. their cheif donned the red velvet robes on dec. 24th 1776 b.c.e., and the rest is history.

St. nick was simply doing the work of God. It doesn't matter if you worship God or not. Every knee shall bow, every tongue confess. Santa will be doing the same along with the Easter bunny, Cupid, St.Patrick and that damn groundhog

Sannnnna! yay...presents. Santa is real, he has multiplied himself through cloning and has tricked everyone into thinking he isn't real. Throughout his life he endured many assassination attempts, but he knew his plan of not being real would definitely work for this very purpose.

But we do worship him... by standing in for him at Christmas time by giving gifts.
