It is a wide topic to discuss. However, the following hints may help you get the essence of it.
1. Personal hygiene which includes taking bath daily(anti-bacterial soap or shower gels are not matter here), fresh clothing, hand washing after contacting with any actual and potential contaminants.
2. Food hygiene which includes using fresh veg and meat, washing them properly, cooking them in an adequate temperature, consuming foods in a hygienic area, and more importantly never consume foods that was cooked on the previous days. Water hygiene is equally important as clean water, preferably drinking boiled cold water during outbreaks do matter. Brushing your teeth and flossing prior retiring to bed is essential.
3. Immunise those who are vulnerable, especially kids and elderly. Do not ignore any ailment and early treatment is always better.
4. Look after your pets. This is very important as pets can spread germs even when they are healthy. Take them to vet even they suffer with any minor ailments. Abnormal behaviour is the first sign that they are ill.
5. General cleanliness. Always remember, A clean home is a healthy home. It includes, keeping your surroundings tidy, proper disposals of waste and maintaining a garden. Never ever allow water to stagnate surrounding your home.
In general, make sure that every family members take healthier foods, some form of physical activity, and adequate rest. This is the tripod of health.
Hope, this helps.

You have two choices!
1. Try to isolate yourself from every germ in the world and continuously try to disinfect everything that comes in contact with you and your family.....or
2. Realize that you, your family and all of us live in "symbiosis," (a balanced harmony,) with every other organism in the world. The only time a person gets sick is when that balance is tipped to the wrong side. Our world is a "cause and effect" world. You see it everywhere. You eat too much, your stomach hurts. Eat contaminated food, you vomit and have diarrhea. Smoke enough cigarettes, you get cancer. Drink enough alcohol, you kill your liver. As much as medical science has progressed, they still have yet to cure anything. Antibiotics simply kill enough bacteria that your body's immune system is able to regain control and bring you back to homeostasis.
The real secret to staying healthy is not depending on what medicine can do, but rather, what you can do to keep your immune system strong throughout your life!
One of the first steps is to make sure that your family gets plenty of Omega 3 fatty acids in their diet. You cannot depend on our food supply for these because over the last 60 to 80 years these essential fatty acids have been eliminated from our diet. The reason is, essential fatty acids are very fragile and unstable. If they are left in cooking oils they go rancid really fast. Therefore food producers have sacrificed the health of millions of Americans simply because their products would not last very long on the store shelf if they left them in. It's the old story of profit before safety or common sense.
I could go on and on, but, get essential fats into your family diet and do an internet search into "Alkaline Diet." Ever since I have followed an Alkaline diet, (3-4 years,) I have not been sick a day. I no longer take the flu shot yet I work in a busy ER taking care of patients with the flu almost daily!
Medicine has it's place, but a strong immune system and an alkaline lifestyle will do more to protect your family from germs than anything else!

1)only a few species of germs are harmful to us.
2)they can be made harmless by the basic cleanliness most of us adapt.
3)the ones to watch out for are the opportune germs that cause disease/infection if our immune system is low.
4)make sure the family eat healthy, sleep proper, follow the arvyudic principles of eating food ..this ensures a strong inner body immune system which can tackle most germs that could cause disease in our bodies if given a chance.
5)do not be TOO disinfectant/sterilise mad ...we all need contact with germs to build up immunity to them...

There's only so much you can do. The main thing is hygiene - washing hands frequently, keeping hands away from face, washing sheets and towels 1or 2 times a week, drying laundry in the sun or using bleach, and minimizing contamination in the kitchen by cleaning with bleach solution and keeping unprepared foods away from prepared foods and utensils.
