As December approached I became very excited because I thought my son would really get into Christmas this year. I LOVE the holidays and I am so excited for him to believe in Santa and feel the magic I did when I was a child. So...I've been talking and talking to him about santa...we've watched every Christmas movie there is to watch...and Saturday we visted santa at the mall. It didnt go great, he was scared (as I am sure most children are) and so we left with no picture. What else can I do to help him to understand that santa comes on Christmas Eve and etc. I really want him to get into it? Oh we will also be baking as a family on Sunday to make Christmas cookies for Santa.

Wait till next year. My daughter will be 6 on the 21st, and just started talking about Santa this year. (she is in Kinder)
I was excited like you, when she was younger, but she didn't quite understand. Now she is old enough to write a letter, help bake cookies, decorate the tree, etc....
And understands that santa won't make it down if she is misbehaving..... lol!!

But they will either be into it at an early age or not. Don't rush....
GOOD LUCK!

Santa isn't true - why do you want your child to believe something that's a lie, which will make him stop trusting you when he learns the truth?

You can enjoy Christmas without Santa. My first son was scared of the whole idea of Santa (which he learned at his mother-and-toddler group) and asked me if Santa was real or pretend. I told him it was a very nice pretend, and he was greatly relieved. He hated the idea of a strange man coming down our chimney and leaving presents. He was much happier to know that presents came from us, and his grandparnts, and other loved relatives and friends.

You can still have a tree, and eat Christmas food, and enjoy the season without even mentioning Santa. You can make Christmas cookies for yourselves, or to give to neighbours or friends.

I don't think it's a problem that he is not into Santa...considering it's really just a story and not real. I think what you are remembering most of your childhood is the traditions that you experienced with your family. Creat your own traditions and continue some of the old ones, he will be able to appreciate those long after he is out of the Santa phase.

Easy. When he wakes up christmas morning tell him you saw Santa if you have a chimney put a jingle bell inside then let him look for it so he thinks Santa came down the chimney and dropped a bell

I went out and bought a santa suit with the beard and had Grandpa dress up. It took aprox. 30 min. for my daughter to get use to him. The next day she went to the mall and was fine with Santa.
