I really want apply in the future, but I just want know what my likelihood of getting in is.

I'm a sophomore in high school and I have a 3.7 GPA currently (I'm taking several AP classes and doing well in all of them)... though I'm in the regular honors level math (opposed to a full level ahead), will that hurt me?

I am in the civil air patrol (and by the time i apply it would've been for 2 1/2 years). I am a synchronized skater, and i play lacrosse. I'm currently working on my gold award for girl scouts, and volunteer with my church.

And what do you need to do to get the congressional appointment?

Any tips will help! Am I on the right track?

Hello Kir88:

This is a good goal. You might want to begin by visiting the USAFA website and look around. The admissions site http://academyadmissions.com/ may have some useful information for you. You may also want to schedule a visit to see if the academy is something you really want to do, rather than a romantic idea of what you want to do. It is a different culture, and some don't take to it well. After busting their tails to get in, many drop out within the first few weeks. It is doable, as many have done so, but it isn't for everyone.

How is your physical health? Your athletics seem good, are your eyes 100%?

Do you speak a non-English language? See if you can take Arabic, Farsi, or Chinese. Any second or third language will help; it shows you can learn new concepts.

Do you have a great desire to fly?

What are your personal career goals for your life? How will the academy help fill these goals? What will you do if you are not nominated for the academy?

Is there a chapter of Air Force Junior ROTC in your area? You might want to join this group. If your family can afford it, you might also check into an Academy prep school. In addition to Girl Scout GOLD award, you may also want to find out more about the Congressional Bronze, Silver & Gold awards program. Have you thought about joining the Venture Scouts division of the Boy Scouts of America? The RANGER and VENTURE Silver awards hold the same respect with the military as the Eagle Scout and GSUSA GOLD. The more leadership you can demonstrate, the better your chances of nomination. Do you do anything in student government? Holding an office will show that you are willing to demonstrate leadership.

Go with your parents and speak with the Air Force recruiter, and have him/her explain the other alternate routes to get into the academy.

Best of luck!

Have your high school counselor start the ball rolling NOW, RIGHT NOW!

Also, write your congresspersons (representative and senator) requesting an appointment with them, or for written response from them, regarding procedures for application to the USAFA.

CONTACT any person you know (previous graduate from your school-current Accademy student) and ask them if they are willing to give you pertinent information that will help you in securing an appointment.

Keep your grades up; it sound like you are on the right tract and NOW is the time to act on this.

PROOF ALL YOUR WRITTEN COMMUNICATONS AS POOR ENGLISH AND BAD SPELLING WILL BE NOTICED AND, IF BAD, REASON FOR REJECTION.

Getting into any service academy is tough! So you have to be tougher!!

Get with you guidance counselor NOW and create a plan. Don't limit yourself to just the AFA (although it is my favorite too). All the service academies are top notch and it will be an honor to be accepted to any of them.

Consider volunteer work or a service project in your community to get the attention of you congressman or senator!

Bottom line....don't be shy and promote yourself positively. Keep you grades high and aim high!!

Sounds like you are on your way!! Good luck.

to get the congressional appointment, you should write a letter to all of your congressmen and include your resume and accomplishments as well as a short paragraph that explains why they should choose you. unless you or your parents personally know one.
