A great verse in Acts gives a description of 4 practices that the first Church did every time they gathered together, Acts 2:42. There are many characteristics to look for, but this list of four is a good place to start.

Depends on who you ask. Lots of churches try to align themselves with the Bible on various levels.
I know at one point they had 12 apostles
and baptized by putting people all the way under the water, not with sprinkling
and had leaders who received visions and revelations
Remember at the time of the Bible there was no Bible yet... they just had a big pile of ancient writings. It wasn't a Bible for 700 years A.D.
Also, a clarification. The Catholic church is not specifically mentioned in the Bible, except perhaps in the Catholic version of the Bible (not identical to the more common King James version).
The Catholic church did much of the Bible-creation, as I recall. The Catholic church claims to be a direct descendant from the original church. The Mormon church claims that the original church disappeared and was restored, in them. Most other major religions do not claim to have a direct connection with the original church, except to have similar beliefs.

1peter2 is a good start & Acts 2:42-47
The bible does not mention a church actually, the people
were called in Greek Eklesia/Called out ones an Assembly or
Congregation.
They continued steadfast in the apostles doctrine, fellowship
& breaking bread (meals together) & in prayers, continuing
daily with one accord in the Temple, breaking bread from
house to house, Praising YHWH God & having favour with
all the people & the Master added to the assembly daily
those who were being saved. This was the Acts assembly &
this is how it should be today, something went wrong.

One Holy Catholic [universal] and Apostolic Church instigated by God when He gave Peter [the rock] the keys to the kingdom of Heaven and officially began on Pentecost with the decent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and Mary
.
This happened before the Bible was written. Now the problem is, in which version of the Bible will this be written. So when you use the word "Bible in your question, you have to state which version you are talking about,so Christians can argue if it is right or not.

There is no mention of The Church of God in the Bible. All Christian religions like to think they are based on the Bible. Only Catholics have a legitimate claim on their Church actually being mentioned.

You know, ... I am really trying to understand this and various other questions.. Catholics certainly believe they are the true church. But honestly,.. the only true church is the church built by God with Jesus Christ as the cornerstone. It is not man made.
