"Intelligent Design" is a technical term that evolved from Creationism due to natural selection by the Courts causing that latter to go all but extict. "Design", here is being used as a noun (like, "Let's look at the design of the castle that sunk into the swamp"), and "Intelligent" is an adjective (as in, "It wasn't a very intelligent design, was it").

However, "Let's intelligently design the castle this time, so it won't sink into the swamp" is correct usage. "intelligently", here is being used as an adverb to qualify "design", now being used as a verb.

If there was such a thing as "house kicking" your mom (analogous to designing a castle, intelligently or otherwise), and roundly was used to as an adverb to qualify how such a house kicking would be performed (roundly just happens to mean "with full force or vigor"), then your counter example would make perfect sense. It would mean your mom got house kicked with full force. But, that's not what it means. A round house kick is a kind of kick best done in, well, a round house because of its arc, so saying your mom gets round house kicked is correct. She could, however, be roundly round house kicked around.
