No. The standard ISO policy, is valid in the US AND CANADA. So, the coverage is already there. HOWEVER, you're going to need to request a canadian id card from your insurer, it's a simple form to type up. That's so if you get stopped in Canada, you have proof that your insurance is valid there, and they don't impound your car.

No, but you will have to check that you are covered for the minimum liability in Canada, which is $200,000.00 for most areas. Your insurance company should be able to issue you a Canadian Non-Resident Proof of Insurance Certificate. This will show you have at least the minimum coverage required.

As for the doofus who said you need a passport, they are wrong. You only need a passport if you are traveling by air or by sea. Land crossings do not yet need a passport.

Just call your insurance agent. (if you have one) and let them know you will be traveling on vacation to canada. Most insurance companies cover within a few miles of the usa border with the exception of mexico. They have there own laws that require you carry there own insurance.

You don't necessarily need permission, but it would be wise to find out how driving in a foreign country affects your coverage. Seems like it could be an issue, but who knows.

Most policies will cover you in all states and provinces. It is Mexico where you need to get insurance separately.

Yes, I have had to get special add ons for the times I have driven to a different countries--also sent my truck by boat to Korea and drove there. If you don't, they don't have to honor your insurance if something happens.
