The troops need Hummers....
...but those are hard to mail.
I remember how cold it could get there and I think the best option would be some fleeces or some long underwear. Maybe the fleeces would be better, they are easier to get on and off after sunset and before sunrise.

hey hun,
Some of the things I mail my hubby to keep warm are limited.
Generally they have been issued to them what is neccesary, but depending where they are at, these are a few things they can use.
Hot Choc Packets, gloves
You can send a blanket, Fleece usually does the trick
Those hand warmer things in a packet, when you bend it in half they warm up to 8 hours. (Know what im talking about?) they can put them in there boots or gloves.
really hun other than that there is not much you can do.
If they cant warm up water, sometimes in the travel area you can buy these like water pitchers that boil water( with batteries.) Hoped I helped some.
Good luck

Try the link below. You may need to look through their pages to find what you're looking for. If you don't, you can email them with your question. They can help you get your generous gift to the ones who need it. I know I've seen projects like yours on here before.
My son was in Iraq twice (got home in mid-Sept from the second deployment). Contrary to what some people here have said, it gets extremely cold in the desert this time of year, especially at night. He still has a hat that someone in our church knitted for him. He said is was a life-saver for him.

Thank you for your generosity and caring. With all the anti-war garbage going on over here, some of our troops are getting discouraged. Add that to the stresses of war and being away from their families during the holidays or other special times (my son missed the birth of his first child), it can be very difficult. I know these gifts make it less difficult for many of them.
God bless you. And God bless our troops.

It does get very cold at night in Iraq and it snows in Northern Iraq. I'm sure some of the other "desert" locations get cool too. they don't really need clothing because you mostly have to wear uniform items and pt clothes.
calling cards to warm the heart
i agree with the cocoa (maybe a set with mugs)
maybe better sheet sets depending on the location (mostly twin). cute lil throws.
small space heaters (i sent a griddle once so these should go through)
depending on the location you can send civilian unisex sweatshirts
THICK black socks
Aafees gift cards
and junk food

Yes, it actually does get very cold there, i was watching a show about it on the Militairy channel. These guys were on a mission and they were seperated, and a few of them died because of the intense cold. As for what to send them, uh, blankets of course, and maybe if the ground is soft enough, a shovel to dig a hole for shelter, because that was one of the main problems for them, they couldnt find any shelter. I hope this helped.

well sometimes at night in iraq it drops from being 140F to just 40F so sending beanies and gloves and thermals and stuff like that will help. Maybe you can send some hand warmers, but not sure if the usps will allow that in the mail. check first!!

nap blankets from Bed, Bath, and Beyond for sailors and air force. See if you can find the mylar blankets like the astronauts use for army and marines. They're light and they pack well and Afghanistan is COLD. Also send hot sauce, bags of tea, zippo lighters and fuel.

Whiskey...haha...kidding
Try small blankets, like 4x6 feet. Or maybe some UnderArmour Cold Gear shirts...I guess black would be a safe color.
Gloves? Skull caps?
