Very biblical, old-fashioned name. I don't see a problem with it. It does sound like an "old" name, one you'd expect to see on an older person, but girls' names are following a trend of the older names coming back into popularity (Victoria, Emma, Olivia) so why not the boys' names too?
And besides, I can almost guarantee that he'll be the only Abraham in his kindergarten class - a name unique enough, but not so odd that people have no idea how to pronounce it.

Naming a son from the Bible isn't a bad choice. And I do like the name Abraham, he is one of the most important characters in Scripture. But remember this, your son will constantly be called Abe not Abraham. Is that what you want?

I dont understand why he would be teased.
My god what a horrible thing to do to a child and name them something normal!
come on mom, give it a rest, it's a desent name. And not one that is common. And if you think that will get him teased then name him Zebulon Obadia....(spelling on the middle name sorry) Thats my brothers name or at least it was till he was adopted by our step dad when our mom remarried and then it was chanced to Zebulon Ira.
He was never teased one bit with his name. And it's a rare occation that he finds someone with his name.
Make your child special, Abraham is a beautiful and Respectful name.

I'm a teacher, I've had a student named Abraham before, and I never recalled any teasing....this was a first grade class mind you. I don't think its one of those name that kids really pick at though.

It is a nice name. Kids get teased for all different reasons so if it isn't the name he is teased about it could be something else so give him that name if you like it and don't worry about it. Hey, when he is in high school he could be called "Abe the Babe"...that might be something he would actually like (LOL)!!

My last name is Woody, and I got teased from kindergarten until about 4th grade, then kids just kinda got over it. Kids will tease kids about hair color, weight, clothing, skin color, the car their parent drive etc.... If you are a good parent (and I am sure you are) what other kids say won't matter and I think being teased a little builds character. I prefer people call me woody now!

Kids are going to get teased about their names, in some way. What about making Abraham his middle name?

Have you heard some of the names people are naming their babies? Abraham is a great name for a boy.

Yea, and he will grow up hating you both. Here are some other options- Gabriel, or Braden. Gabe is like Abe, and unless your family is Omish then i would stray from Abraham. There are plenty of other great names that are original. Picking one from the bible is just lazy. Besides, the bible is sexist, promotes animal sacrifice, racism, and discrimination towards others- no one likes it anymore, along with names that come from it. If your going to name your child from the bible you might as well call it Lazarus or Lion den or donkey.
