You can either sell it as an individual sale in most areas, or you can sell it to a gun shop, or have the gunshop sell it for you on consignment. You didn't say whether the Mini-14 was blue, stainless, or whether it has a wood stock or synthetic stock, nor did you mention its condition, so it is hard to place an asking price on it. I'd say anywhere from $350-$400.

If you are not familiar with selling firearms....and you don't want to invite over strangers to your house to see it, take it to your friendly neighborhood gun shop that sells guns 'on consignment'.
Ask around for recommendation on a gun shop, or check the yellow pages and call a few.
My local shop charges 15% ($25 minimum) of the sale price, plus any classified ad cost if you want him to put an ad in the paper, which will bring in a lot more buyers.
This modest fee gets you a professional consultation on the real market value of the piece, peace of mind in knowing that all laws are being followed and that you don't have to sell it yourself. It's a great deal!

You could also contact the National Rifle Association and find out when a gunshow is in your area. Take the firearm (Unloaded of course) to the gunshow for sale or trade. Sometimes if you would like a different gun and the traders are willing, you can cut a good deal all around for both parties. You get a different gun and they get your old one.

I'd go with DJ's advice. Last thing you want is to sell it on the street and then read how it was used in a crime the next day.

Price? will depend on condition and the accessories you have with the rifle.
To compare your rifle to others

You will get more out of your rifle if you sell it yourself.
