My dog does this when i pet her. She'll be standing next to me then slide down and roll over.

If its submission why is she not submissive while walking on the leash?

Yes.. most definitely..
even in a Wolfe pack.... that is the way the pack begs down to the main one..

she is/has been mistreated when u are not around.. and so much so..
that she is even scared of u..
who has been nothing but good to her. I am sure there is no way to get to the bottom of this. .
but once u get ur own place and ur dogs find security with u.. it will go away.. I am sure..
lots of smiles and laughs this holiday season.....

Rolling over may be a sign of submission, but it can also be a demand: "Rub my tummy!"

Dog body language is not as simple as some sources would lead you to believe. You have to see the context within which it occurs.

With your dog, it's clear that this roll-over is not a submissive one -- it's part of a communication that says "Pet my tummy!"

Also, it is not unusual for a dog to show submission in some situations and not others.

Sounds like she could use some obedience training so that she will walk on leash better. You might want to look into a local obedience class -- you'll both enjoy the time together!

Now, don't just stand there, rub her tummy! (Or if you really want to do it right, back away from her, call her to come, and when she comes, then give her the tummy rub. That way, she's working for her affection and practicing her obedience skills, too. It's a win-win for both of you!)

More likely it means "I want a tummy rub", Cesar Milan aside - not everything is about "alpha"
"submission" or "calm submission" - sometimes dogs are just in the mood for a good belly rub.

Lighten up folks.

This is a good sign. She knows who is boss and is showing you so. When she walks on the leash, try using a choke chain high on her neck and making her walk right next to you. NEVER let her walk ahead of you. Walking ahead is a pack leader move, and she cannot be pack leader. It's also acceptable for her to walk slightly behind you.
It just sounds like she needs a bit more training. She is getting the idea though.

It means, "I love you, now scratch that magic spot on my belly that makes my leg kick!"
