My muslim friend and I [atheist] were approuched by a local church group.
they said we are "sinners" by not accepting jesus, and we should convert.
well, I told them that my friend here is the latest edition, so why not convert to islam then?
they got all mad at us saying "how dare you insult my religon"
and yada yada yada.
can't most christians just get over the fact that not everyone is christian?
and what happened to being "loving" and "repecting everyone?"

No need to be offense there.
I was just merely giving an example, seeing that islam is the "new edition" to the religon of books.
and you got that from the old testament, and guess who has that in their book?
Typical christian behavior [most of them anyway]

While it's true that many Christians feel the need to share their beliefs, just as many (myself included) really don't care what your beliefs are. You do your thing and I'll do mine.

Every religion will tell you that their beliefs are the one true way, and everything else is completely wrong and sinful. The christians seem to be the religious group that tries to over-solicit their religion to everyone else, the jehovah's witnesses and mormons are the most notorious for this. I remember being approached by some kids from the local church groups, similar to the ones you mentioned. They were the ones who wore those wwjd bracelets and talked about christ like he was their imaginary friend, going on about all the great things he does but foolishly making him sound like Harry Potter in the process.

The jehovah's witnesses will tell you that their religion requires them to publicly preach their beliefs to others to try to get them to jump on board. Now the local church group that you mentioned, if they were not jehovah's witnesses or mormons then I would say they were just following the pattern of the blind leading the blind and they needed more people to agree and approve of what they were doing in order for them to feel even a little substantiated about what THEY choose to subscribe to.

we are commanded to preach the gospel. If we disobey then we will be found wanting and lose rewards.

the Bible warns about a coming movement where people will become united under 1 false religion. Therefore true christians will stay away from any idea of accepting other religions as real.

This does not mean we should disresepect or be cruel. Because the Bible says this:

Rom 2:
4: Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?

We are to woo people to Christ not like Islam which believes in using the sword.

That's the same as saving your parents -- Christics steal from ever belief the was before their Why call it Judeo Christian -- Egyptian Jodeo --- If more could be know about history -- The Egyptian may have gotten Amun from earlier beliefs--- Jealousy is big in religion-- They invented sin --And know they argue over it like children- All cultures are devils and gods at the same time-- Faith in God is their only Proof

they were wrong in saying that you were sinners because you didn't accept Jesus........and the reason is because all are sinners and just because you accept Jesus does not mean that you no longer sin you are just no longer a slave to sin. And to be loving would mean to share the good news of salvation to the world and that is what Jesus commanded us to do in his great commision at the end of the book of Matthew in the bible. Just many Christians don't share that gospel very well they tend to demand the gospel and that was not God's intent.

The Bible teaches Christians to spread the word of God as it is explained to us. He is the almighty the creator the alpha and the omega. He teaches us not have any other gods before him it is a insult to the Lord. Why shouldn't Christan's be insulted over other religions God is. That does not mean we hate all other non Christians we hate the fact they are not saved according to the Bible we are not making up the rules this is what the Bible says.

Read the Bible from front to back and that should answer all the questions about the way Christians behave. Good luck.

Hi Diana,
Im sorry you had a bad experience with people calling themselves "Christians". Its unfortunate, and most people dislike Christianity because of its followers not because of who they follow.
As a Christian myself, I remember seeing a bumper sticker that said " I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians, they are not like your Christ" I know that this is all too true, and it breaks my heart.
We are called to "always be ready to share the hope that lies within us". Some just decide they are going to "save" people instead of letting there lives be proof of the truth.
For me it would be like not sharing the most wonderfull news you could ever possibly share with someone. You just want to share it with everyone. I have learned to wait for people to ask me what I believe, or ask me why I live differently than most. Then I share.
So on behalf of true Christians everywhere, sorry that you and your friend were offended, it should not have happened that way.

Yes, Christians are supposed to be loving and respectful to all. I'm sorry that was not the case in your experience.

By the way, Christians believe that all people are sinners, including themselves, and that all people need a savior. We see Jesus Christ as that savior.

Qur’an 3:56 “As for those disbelieving infidels, I will punish them with a terrible agony in this world and the next. They have no one to help or save them.”

You mean loving, like Muslims....right?

The Bible speaks of a time of punishment, but it is reserved for the end, when all have had opportunity to come into a right way of living. In Bible language, that would be Jesus' way of living. With the Muslim way (and please no I am not slamming, I'm responding to your criticism) if someone is not of their religion, that would be you and me, we get punishment in this world AND after. Wow, makes you wanna become a muslim.

But I'm sure your friend "loves" you enough he/she has warned you of your fate.

Didn't they insult the Muslim? I agree, I hate the in your face "I'm right" action of many religions. We have brains, we can listen, think and decide on our own. Don't try to force me to believe. Don't condemn what I believe.
